what kinda stuff is it?

Jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

nevermind. found it at the soulstrut forums. they have a yousendit link too.

Jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

damn, so does anyone have the tracklist?

nofrontin, Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

Woah, this shit's getting fucked up how people circulate albums before the thing is even shipped lately. DJ Shadow definitely works hard enough to earn whatever he can.

Damnyo, Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

you're right, we shouldn't circulate a limited-ed CD that you would have had to pay 170 bucks to hear.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

Haha I thought you were kidding Vahid. WTF?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

You can get the CD with a t-shirt for $24, can't you?

Damnyo, Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

djshadow.com says $34.99 and the t-shirt is butt-ugly.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

i would rather pay $18.99 for a metallica CD.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

actually i would pay $18.99 for this CD.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

"You may be asking, "Why can't Shadow just make everyone happy and manufacture 20,000 copies and sell them for $2 apiece?" The answer is as follows (particularly grumpy blog n' board-type dudes, take notice): This is a mix CD. Meaning, it contains a lot of other people's music, owned by other people. Meaning, it is intended for promotional use only, as in Shadow isn't allowed to go and make 20,000 copies and sell them for $2 apiece or $200 apiece. Enough copies need to circulate to circumvent bootlegging, but not enough to be a liability. Get it? Got it? Good."

Hahaha

Also it's $35 for the t-shirt deal. Fuck that.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

oh HO

TOO CHEAP TO PAY BUT TOO POOR TO SELL OUT?

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

that too is limited edition, I see...

Considering that DJ Shadow must've figured this all out beforehand -- ltd. edition, high price, independent distribution -- he knew very well it would get circulated for free and he would still make his profit without risking much by way of illegal samples. And he gets to put the word out so people will come out and see his gigs.

In this case, I'm glad it's being circulated. Thanks for the link!

damnyo, Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

I would pay $18.99 for this. People pay ridiculous money for limited edition crap like this.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

DON'T BOOTLEG MY BOOTLEGS!

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

Haha I want DJ Shadow to come and yell at all of us the way RDJ2 did. That was classy.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm still going to get it just to make $300 in a few years on Ebay. That is, if I can get it before he sells out. The t-shirt may be butt ugly, but it let's everyone know I'm cool and in the know. ;P

damnyo, Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

industry rule number four thousand and eighty: sac-town people are shady

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

To all you wonderful people that have downloaded my fucking bootleg mixtape. thanks!! To you fantastic people responsible for posting my fucking bootleg mixtape = an extra thanks to you!! I should shelve this bootleg mixtape, let the computer have it, quit stealing famous rap artists music and start a hand clapping orchestra. If I could afford to give this bootleg mixtape to everyone - i would do it, but instead i fucked up and forgot i was wearing a sign around my neck that says; "I make unlicensed mixtapes for free!", my bad... Alright - big up yourselves. Gracias...!

DJ SHADOW (Alex in SF), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

ok anyway

dj harvey did two mixes for LA fashion labels - he did one for freshjive last year and he did one for sarcastic clothing last year, too. both were rad, both were freely available on the internet.

shadow's mix is fine, certainly nothing great compared to harvey.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

I have downloaded it to my computer where it will sit until I remember that I downloaded it five months from now when I will listen to it and probably promptly forget about it again. Jess did you download this btw?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

He probably went to sleep. I forgot that DJ SHADOW told him to. When DJ SHADOW talks you must OBEY!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

i am still awake! i told you, i'm still at work. but actually i am going home now.

strng hlkngtn (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 17 September 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

six months pass...
Six months later I remembered to actually listen to this. It's pretty good actually. Not as good as the Survival NYC mix that I linked on above though which no longer exists, I guess.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 18 March 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

yeah its decent, but i don't think i will ever listen to it again.

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 18 March 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)
