Royal Trux - Radio Video ep. One song recorded live at Borders.
Silver Jews - Hot as Hell. Live single recorded at Drag City festival at Lounge Ax in 1993.
Compulsive Gamblers - Live and Deadly. Part of it was recorded at their final(?) show at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago. The lineup was actually the Reigning Sound plus Jack Oblivian.
Naked Raygun's live version of "Suspect Device" on Jettison and two other songs on the 'Treason' single were from a show I was at. I was also way up front, and since Jeff Pezzati liked to put the microphone out into the crowd, my voice is probably on those records too.

God there’s been a fair few lately; a coupla shots of me in various recent rock docs. Shane Meadows’ Stone Roses doc (Warrington comeback show etc), Blur’s Hyde Park live DVD (I’m visibly refreshed in the clips) and some in the Oasis ’Suoersonic’ doc from Glastonbury ‘95 where I look like a part-time goth that’s slept in a hedge. Typically I’m not in the Suede film despite seeing them a million times at their peak. Julian Temple’s Glastonbury film seemed to show every band I saw there in the preceding 10 years.

Nirvana - 'Live and Loud' at Pier 48 in Seattle (which is getting a vinyl treatment shortly). I skipped school to be there early. Nirvana lore says that Kurt was happy to play and that it was an amazing performance. To my 15 year old self, it wasn't great. He mocked the crowd and seemed pretty distant. It was an MTV event so there were cameras all around. Honestly, I don't remember much about the show but did see their last Seattle show in March of '04 and it was amazing. Much more relaxed, more inclusive set list, better venue.

JAAP BLONK / KOICHI MAKIGAMI / PAUL DUTTON / PHIL MINTON / DAVID MOSS - Five Men Singing
EVAN PARKER TRIO & PETER BRÖTZMANN TRIO - The Bishop's Move
KAZUE SAWAI / MICHEL DONEDA / KAZUO IMAI / LÊ QUAN NINH / TETSU SAITOH - Une chance pour l’ombre

ANTHONY BRAXTON & FRED FRITH - Duo (Victoriaville) 2005
WILLIAM PARKER & THE LITTLE HUEY CREATIVE MUSIC ORCHESTRA - For Percy Heath

If anything was released from those 2 festivals on any other labels, add that.

This doesn't exactly count, but in the Borbetomagus documentary A Pollock of Sound, there's a photo of me in the audience at one of their Tonic performances (it was the night they opened for Merzbow and caused one of the stage monitors to burst into flames).

Also, I was at Sonny Rollins' 80th birthday concert, where Ornette Coleman joined him onstage (with Roy Haynes on drums) and they played "Sonnymoon for Two" together for like 20 minutes. It's on Road Shows, Vol. 2.

I stuck a D90 tape in the mixing desk at the Whipping Boy's Pod gig at the time of Heartworm. Got a good recording that I played bits of on my radio show. Gave a copy of the tape, or was it the tape to copy to Myles McDonnell the bassist and i think they overdubbed bits of it and put it out as singles b-sides.
Unfortunately had to move out of a place back in 2005 in a bit of a hurry. Was clearing up the final bits before leaving the key in the door. I found the tape and thought I had it then dozed off and then left in a hurry leaving the tape behind.
Real shame since it was a great recording and i thought I had a dubbed copy I'd made for myself which I've never been able to find again.

Pod was a venue down near The O'Connell Bridge/Quays in Dublin and was connected to one of the universities.

F*** it deeply.

shakey have you seen that they finally released that whole show? ORANGE COUNTY SHREDS.

oh wow

That I Wanna Be Your Dog all-star jam finale was ridiculous, the Mudhoney guys came back onstage for that and was v chaotic, clear memory of one of the guitarists pants falling down as well

Husker Du Land Speed Record.

I can't be arsed to find where I posted this originally, but yeah. I wasn't ever a big fan really, just saw them rather often because they were something to Du. They had just come back from a west coast tour, and they were even more ferociously loud and fast than previous. The record can't even begin to capture it, it sounds like angry bees in a tin can to me.

confusementalism (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 27 August 2019 20:16 (six years ago)

yeah, there are soundboard recordings of some of those west coast shows and they are amazing

The first time I ever snuck into a gig underage (1991) was turned into a live album, Ed Kuepper playing Saints songs in Ragged Glory style as The Aints - released as a pretty good & raw LP called SLSQ (which stood for Super Low Sound Quality).

oh and was a delighted attendee at this lovely terry riley piano performance and lecture. i'd gone along to see a performance of in c and mooched along to this as well, which i thought was just going to be a boring talk.

I was there for the second of the two nights this was pulled from: https://www.discogs.com/Modest-Mouse-Baron-Von-Bullshit-Rides-Again/release/702066. Don't think I've ever listened to it -- didn't even it realize it was from those shows until years later.

And a few tracks from the first Sparks show I ever went to ended up on the Dick Around single, so that's a great memento of an amazing performance: https://www.discogs.com/Sparks-Dick-Around/master/87051

we could've taken sides on the Spacemen 3/Mudhoney beef

Οὖτις, Thursday, 29 August 2019 15:07 (six years ago)

Ha! I was an undergrad at UCI then - no way I was going to miss this show. As far as I knew at the time, I had the only car in OC with a Spacemen 3 sticker on the back window.

I can think of two:

Twelfth Night, live at the Target - side one only, we went off somewhere else while they turned the cassette over in the recording machine.

Oasis - Familiar To Millions - They were going to release the second gig but Liam got stoney drunk and went all wahayyy so they reverted to the night before's recording, and that's the one we were underneath the Wembley Twin Towers for.

I attended It's All In Your Head FM v1.0 put on by Negativland at the Great American Music Hall back in 2005. Not sure which night I was there, but I believe it might have been the first. Supposedly the live album was culled from the three performances (two in SF and one in LA)

three years pass...

My agent in Syracuse tells me they just put a big A on the Carrier Dome.
