I've been trying to think of the name of this English band from the late 80's that played very slick soul music. Can someone help me out?

I remember seeing the band play on VH1 back in 1990: They were comprised of a female singer who was black and three skinny white guys playing keys, bass, and drums (I think). And I think they had a "The" at the beginning of their name. They only had, I believe, one album ever released at least stateside.
