Inspired by someone saying "There She Goes" was the weakest song on that La's album.

"Loose Cannon" by Killing Joke (from Killing Joke 2003).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

R.E.M: E-Bow The Letter
Paul McCartney: Pretty Little Head
Paul McCartney: Fine Line
The Beatles: Come Together ("Something" is the strongest though)
Depeche Mode: I Feel You

"Country House" is of course the best ever track by Blur, thanks to a glorious chorus, and that great Madnessque mood of the entire track.

rat, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

Jeez, all the R.E.M. hate - how can you people dismiss:

From Document: "Disturbance at the Heron House" - jeez, even "It's the End of the World"

From Around the Sun: "Leaving New York"

From New Adventuresin Hi-Fi: Jeez, a lot of them

So call me an apologist. That's another R.E.M. song.

Justin, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

The Police: "Roxanne" and "Can't Stand Losing You" -- two sucky sappy singles from the otherwise excellent and energetic Outlandos D'Amour.

I probably won't get much agreement on this, but I'd say "Golden Years" from Station to Station. It's the only one I ever skip over when I listen to that album.

The "Radio Ga Ga" Queen cover off the new Electric Six. TOTAL tone shift for the album.

Even if you hate Electric Six, there's no way you can think that song is any better than any other track off that album.

"Devil Nights" is great though, shoulda been a single

Erock Lazron, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

"do the strand" from "for your pleasure." it's a good song, and i especially love how menacing the saxophone sounds, but it's almost definitely the weakest song on the album--it's not even the most obvious choice for a single ("editions of you").

owen moorhead (i heart daniel miller), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

oh, and "blue monday". what a fucking obnoxious track (though i do love it).

owen moorhead (i heart daniel miller), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

whatttt?

do i have to spend my entire life arguing that "do the strand" rules the world??? all of fr yr pleas rules, but "do the strand" especially rules, and here are a few reasons why:

- high-pitched eno synths behind instrumental section sound like warm jets
- this is bryan ferry's ultimate statement of purpose as far as im concerned. waywayway over the top, cheezy, but really really heavy and sharp when everything kicks in
- "do the strand-ski"
- maybe it reaquires an antagonistic mood or something, but i just really really like ferry's attitude.

also - "golden years" is great, too.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

mm - i do sort of agree about "blue monday", but mostly, i think its just very different from the stuff i like best on PC&L, like "age of consent" or "the village". by itself, its an awesome song, but in the context of the album, it always seems jarring.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Blue Monday wasn't a single culled from PC&L though!!! It was added later to American pressings or something. So it doesn't count. Even if it did count, you're still wrong. :P

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

fair enough... what did original brit pressings of PC&L have, then? did they at least have "the beach?" if not, its like a 20-minute-long album!

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

"Evenflow", Pearl Jam
"Supersonic", Oasis
"Car Song", Elastica

not that the albums are that great, but these are the pits, and with videos even!

Crunchy (aarana), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

disagree x 3, sorry

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Pavement: Rattled By The Rush
There are at least fifteen better songs than this on Wowee Zowee

Bruce Springsteen: Prove It All Night
Not the worst song on Darkness, (Streets of Fire is) but pretty darn close.

U2: Elevation
I always hated that song, but the record is great.

Bob Dylan: To Make You Feel My Love
The worst song on Time Out Of Mind, but for some reason the most covered.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Almost all of the current, crappy American issues of proper New Order albums have extra and rearranged tracks. "Blue Monday" and "The Beach" were added later to PC&L... It's about damn time for some re-issues-- the American PC&L is the worst sounding CD I own!

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

Warren Zevon - "Werewolves of London."

From an album with "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" and "Excitable Boy" on it -- not to mention "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner," quite possibly the greatest song ever written about the disasterous effects of late 19th-century colonialism and headless mercenaries.

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Always thought "New World Man" by Rush was a poor way of introducing the world to the Signals album.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

"Even Flow" is nowhere NEAR as bad as "Porch"!!

"The Way You Move" is the worst song on Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
"Sexy Boy" is the worst song on Moon Safari.
"How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?" is the worst song on Behaviour.

And yes, "There She Goes" really is the worst song on The La's.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

I dislike "There She Goes" hugely Mr Snrub but it >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "DOLEDRUM"

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

nah, "Porch" is one of my fav songs on Ten...that doesn't make it a great song, but sheesh, "Evenflow", that song just doesn't go anywhere, no catharsis, for a band for whom catharsis (forced or not) was about their only trick...

Crunchy (aarana), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

'yellow' on coldplay's parachutes

Missy Elliott - "Lose Control"

OK it's not actually the weakest, but at least half the tracks on Cookbook are better.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Though it's not the worst, Heart Shaped Box is not nearly the best song on In Utero.

I'd rank it behind: All Apologies, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, Pennyroyal Tea, Very Ape, Dumb, Francis Farmer, Rape Me, Scentless Apprentice and Serve the Servants.

So it only beats Tourette's and Milk It

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

o nate OTM

funny thing is, I went into Cookbook wanting to hear more along the lines of 'Lose Control'(and still do) but was more impressed with most of the songs that sound nothing like it

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I do like it, but how "Single-Billingual" was chosen as a single from Billingual instead of "Discoteca", "Up Against It", "To Step Aside" or "It Always Comes As A Surprise" is beyond me.

LeRooLeRoo (Seb), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

also Sexy Boy >>>>> All I Need and the Outkast comment is just silly, not to single Snrub out but damn

R.E.M: E-Bow The Letter
Paul McCartney: Pretty Little Head
Paul McCartney: Fine Line
The Beatles: Come Together ("Something" is the strongest though)
Depeche Mode: I Feel You

I don't even know where to start with this list. So I won't, I guess!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

"Roll With It" by Oasis ....ugh...

oh, here's one - "Sex & Candy" by Marcy Playground.... I eventually got the album DESPITE the giant hit that everyone remembers the band (artist?) for, and I still skip it every time. Kind of annoying when you try to convince people it's a good CD and they can't help but think of the song you hate the most...

"Shiny Happy People"

Smashing Pumpkins, "Thirty Three"...not the worst, okay, but it took me years to REALLY like this, and there is so much better material throughout the album.

Was Madonna's "Live To Tell" a single? If so, it's on the list.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Pulp - A little soul

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

Do the Strand? Blue Monday? Golden Years? While you're at it, don't forget to rag on "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Imagine".

Counter-Dipwadism, Thursday, 22 September 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

"Rio" and "Hungry Like The Wolf" were tailor-made (ha, "tailor") for this thread. Now, while I *do* hate "Rio", I do also like "HLTW". But even then, I think it and "Rio" are by far the worst songs off Rio. Every other song off that album is 35,000 times better.

I suggest "Rubberband Girl" off Kate Bush's The Red Shoes.

rachel stevens COME AND GET IT - 'some girls'
-- piscesboy (piscesxx...), September 21st, 2005.

i doubt this. i mean, i've liked what i've heard, but 'hum'. it's better than 'so good' anyway.

'electricity' by spiritualized is my choice, although that's only because it's 'the obvious single'.

N_RQ, Thursday, 22 September 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Sexy Boy >>>>> All I Need

'sexy boy' is neither the best nor worst track on the album.

N_RQ, Thursday, 22 September 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

Er mentioning K Bush, her The Dreaming is obv threadwinner, the singles "Sat in Your Lap", "There Goes a Tenner" and "The Dreaming" being the weakest three tracks out of The Dreaming's ten.

OleM (OleM), Thursday, 22 September 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)
