I think this has happened to me once before, but have no memory on how to fix this streaming problem. How does one remedy this?

did you reopen itunes after update?

Have only done this a few times but I click & hold on the orig link and choose "download file to disk" rather than a straightforward click which only streams. May or may not be the same problem so YMMV.

Are you on a Mac or a PC? I don't have any Mac experience, but if it's the latter, it sounds like a) you usually just click the mp3 and then select "save as" in whatever browser your using and b) the latest version of quicktime that cames with the itunes installer set itself as your default player for mp3s during the setup process. Try right-clicking an mp3 anywhere on your computer, going to "open with," going to "choose program" and then setting it back to whatever your preferred audio player is. And you can always just right-click the mp3 link and select "save as" (in IE or Firefox or whatever browser you use) instead of left-clicking it.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I do use a PC and I know I can just use the "save target as". It's just a bit annoying, I suppose. I swear that there is a way to mess with settings or something in quicktime that will fix this -- I'll be damned if I can figure it out though.

Try this: in the QT player, go to edit->preferences->QuickTime preferences->"file types" tab->make sure the mp3 box isn't checked.

Okay, I tried that + closed all programs + restarted my computer, etc. No dice. Thanks for the help...I'll just have to live with this for now.

not sure if i understand everything correctly ... but,i think you want to change the program that mp3s are universally identified with.

to do this: go to control panel, open folder options, go the file types tab, scroll down and highlight the MP3 file, look at the what MP3 opens with, if it's not itunes then click on change and highlight itunes. there's more advanced options as well.

Uninstall QuickTime.

what browser are you using? maybe itunes overrode the browser's setting for what to do with different file types (in firefox you can change these in options/downloads)
