Amazulu had 5 UK Top 40 hits. The first two were originals; the rest were (increasingly naff and obvious) covers.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 22 September 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

Jim OTM!

oh, so that's what "Kylie Said to Jason" is about

I think it's more to do with Neighbours and their off-screen romantic history, if it's "about" anything at all.

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 22 September 2005 06:47 (twenty years ago)

A Taste Of Honey followed "Boogie Oogie Oogie" with their cover of "Sukiyaki".

Shaggy runs the category for doing it AGAIN after his COMEBACK single ("It Wasn't Me") with that miserable remake of "Angel of the Morning."

....or not, as I just checked Allmusic and it seems that "Oh Carolina" actually preceded Boombastic.

...but wait! The followup single to Boombastic WAS another cover - "In The Summertime." That's the "In the Summertime" made famous by Mungo Jerry, not the Roger Miller one. Much as I would love to hear Shaggy covering Roger Miller...

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

Weezer with their cover of "a little respect"?

I don't get it.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 23 September 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Evil Cheap Trick, or Cheap Trick Mach 2: They introduced themselves to a whole new generation of kids with The Flame, then followed it up with Don't Be Cruel.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Friday, 23 September 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

When I was 7 those were the only 2 Cheap Trick songs I knew.

Limp Bizkit follow-up "Sour" with "Faith." (I personally have never heard "Counterfeit" on the radio, despite the supposed "payola" that surrounds the single.)

The Ataris follow-up "In This Diary" with "The Boys Of Summer."

Joss Stone follows up whatever the first single was with "Fell In Love With A Boy."

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 23 September 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

did you know that joss stone is really 36?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 23 September 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

locomotion was released long before SAW had anything to do with her
-- jimmy glass (electricsoun...), September 22nd, 2005.
jimmy is right.
The Locomotion was released in australia then uk when stock aitken waterman took over her career..SAW added the hyphen and called The Loco-Motion.Craig Harnath wrote the bside called "glad to be alive" with someone lese form kids in the kitchen.
the aussie cover has kylie wearing an animal print fez ,the second uk editon had kylie wearing white on a bed.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 23 September 2005 03:21 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

Ugly Kid Joe ("Cats In The Cradle" after "Everything About You")

xhuxk, Thursday, 4 February 2010 01:53 (sixteen years ago)

i was gonna say smash mouth but they had one original hit then two cover hits then two original hits then one cover hit. then that was it i think. so they don't fit at all really.

scott seward, Thursday, 4 February 2010 02:02 (sixteen years ago)

they do fit because they had an original hit and then their 2nd hit was a cover. what they do after that doesn't matter as far as the thread's criteria.

some dude, Thursday, 4 February 2010 02:03 (sixteen years ago)

okay, then smash mouth!

scott seward, Thursday, 4 February 2010 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

Diddy aka P Diddy aka Puff Daddy followed up "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" with "I'll Be Missing You" (sort of a cover of "Every Breath You Take").

o. nate, Thursday, 4 February 2010 02:49 (sixteen years ago)

xp Well, in that case, Joan Jett! First three Top 100 hits (all of which went Top 20 actually) were all cover versions (by songs by the Arrows, Tommy James, and Gary Glitter.)

But maybe bands who didn't stop with two hits should be disqualified, and maybe bands whose first hit was also a cover version should be too, I dunno. (I was going to say Quiet Riot, but actually "Bang Your Head {Metal Health}" came between their two Slade covers, and was a bigger hit than the second one. So they definitely don't count.)

xhuxk, Thursday, 4 February 2010 02:49 (sixteen years ago)

Lumidee

The Reverend, Thursday, 4 February 2010 03:06 (sixteen years ago)

But maybe bands who didn't stop with two hits should be disqualified,

and maybe bands whose first hit was also a cover version should be too

yeah for sure
