Destroy: Her 'Christmas' Record.

Side Issue: Is she 'witchy' enough to take the 'Witchy Ice-Queen' crown away from Stevie Nicks?

Lord Custos, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Waiting for her "Live at thee Renaissance Faire" to drop, til then DUD.

Oh yeah, Stevie Nicks/Loreena McKennitt FITE!!! I'm taking Stevie to KO Loreena in 5 rounds with a superscratchy banshee yowl.

Hunter, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw a bit of her at Glastonbury, and a nice bit it was too. actually, it was only about a song or two, and then my friends made me leave the tent she was playing in. But I was very taken by her voice and delivery.

Pretentious as hell sometimes, but I love Loreena. I actually got to meet her at one of her shows, back when I was still working for a record store and occasionally got such perks, and I certainly wouldn't call her an "Ice Queen"...she seemed generally friendly. I could never imagine Loreena locking me out of my house, stealing my car and mocking me to my friends; Stevie, on the other hand...

I have to admit that part of my love of Loreena is that she came from small-town Manitoba, like me, so she's kinda like family in that regard. Probably part of the reason why I also occasionally refer to her as "Dorinda McCrackin"--just makes her seem more down to earth.

She also gets props for being one of the first women to manage her own indie record label, Quinlan Road, and take it to international success. I never would have thought Loreena's music would have been something that would have broken so massively on a global scale, but I guess her perseverence with the music and the label has paid off big-time.

That "Mummer's Dance" single was EXCELLENT.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Her never ending take on Lady of Shalot is rather bizarely nice and Mummers Dance b GRATE too.

She would whip Stevie rear with a crushing harp to the head when the ref had his head turned away.

Dante's Prayer is a good haunt.

static, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, I'm surprised at how good she's faring (so far). Add another vote for classic, hey-ho-and-a-bonny-whoa! Or whatever..

three years pass...
They were playing "The Mummers' Dance" at my local coffee shop this morning and it was... fantastic.

WTF? Panic! I have become teh oldness! I am tumbling down a slippery slope toward haunting Amoeba looking for Enya rarities... Thank you, ILM, for having my back!

I fear "All Soul's Night" may be pretty good too.

Surmounter, Friday, 4 May 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 25 May 2018 22:09 (seven years ago)

add surface noise (Ross), Friday, 25 May 2018 22:21 (seven years ago)

com rad erry red flag (f. hazel), Saturday, 26 May 2018 00:01 (seven years ago)

No idea what real world is

Young N the deathless (Ross), Saturday, 26 May 2018 01:54 (seven years ago)

This record makes me feel
Better about this joke of world we live in

Ross, Wednesday, 30 May 2018 06:46 (seven years ago)

two weeks pass...

This album is beautiful.

ArchCarrier, Sunday, 17 June 2018 20:24 (seven years ago)

I never listened to a lot of her stuff, but I went through a whole phase of teenagerdom where I was sort of obsessed with "The Lady of Shalott."

Listening to it now for the first time in probably 25 years and memories like whoa.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 17 June 2018 20:28 (seven years ago)

Ace song.

Beautiful record indeed

sunburst N snowblind (Ross), Sunday, 17 June 2018 21:45 (seven years ago)

this record is amazing

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Saturday, 30 June 2018 15:01 (seven years ago)

I finally got it in the mail, so now I'm letting it sink in. Feels disjointed, but then it's basically a compilation of stray tracks so

com rad erry red flag (f. hazel), Saturday, 30 June 2018 15:25 (seven years ago)

??? it's very cohesive imo.

Rhubarb (Ross), Saturday, 30 June 2018 16:32 (seven years ago)

many of the songs are 10-30 years old according to her. for the most part i think it works though

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Saturday, 30 June 2018 16:39 (seven years ago)

lady of shalott was from 1832 :P

Rhubarb (Ross), Saturday, 30 June 2018 16:57 (seven years ago)

it's consistent with the flamenco style arrangements, spanish night plaza is so gooood

Rhubarb (Ross), Saturday, 30 June 2018 16:57 (seven years ago)

one month passes...

Was on inside the music tonight, radio show.
Loreena played music for a hour with interjections between.
Played Oliver shore (fiddler), Eddie vedder (big heart sun), st Petersburg chamber choir and one other song I couldn’t confirm. She’s really cool too. Show ended bad tho when the host referred to her new album as “old souls”
