What kind of keyboards were used in this song? I heard some Moogs were used.

startrekman, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 05:53 (twenty years ago)

It's not keyboards, it's a banjo.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 07:22 (twenty years ago)

Hayseed Disco.

Macro_Voyeur, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

it's all accapella, it's amazing what she can do with her voice. Puts Bobby Mcferrin to shame.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

but probably these moogs:

I love that Avery Schrieber played on that song!

when something smacks of something (dave225.3), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

I believe that this particular song was produced in conjunction with an outdated device known as a "Moog", in the days before Team West McLaren Mercedes pushed technology into the 21st century.

Ron Dennis, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

An unshaved growth and his music.

tolstoy (tolstoy), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

A man, pet hamster and his Moogs

tolstoy (tolstoy), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

that ergonomic keyboard upthread is only erognomic in relation to your butt.
in order to type, you just sit on the keyboard and shake your booty.
it takes some getting used to, but once you master it you can actually type faster and more accurately than on a regular board.
i'm using one right now.
i feel love.

Magic Marissa, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

Man, the keyboard player on the right was way off time when he played that song.

Oh, and I would be money an Oberheim OB8 was on this.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

I think I once read that it was a Roland System 700 modular, but Google's not turning up anything to support me on that...

naus (Robert T), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 02:52 (twenty years ago)

startrekman, Wednesday, 28 September 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but the REAL question is: Is it a male or female?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

'Cause, you know, you can't tell from the name...

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

> What's the solo sound on "Europe Endless" by Kraftwerk

An ARP Pro-Soloist.

What he said.

It's that, then.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

what I wouldn't do for an arp sequencer...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 29 September 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

In the early days I had a Korg MS20/SQ10, a Roland VP330 Vocoder and some bits of Roland 100M system along with an MC4 sequencer.

retroman, Thursday, 29 September 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

> what I wouldn't do for an arp sequencer...

S'funny you should say that. I bought one only last week. Here's Daniel Miller reminiscing about his work with Depeche Mode:

"The very first time we went into the studio was to do a track called 'Photographic'. I had my ARP Sequencer sync'd to tape and Vince just couldn't believe it. They immediately got into it. It only had 16 note steps, but was a tremendously creative tool. Vince was mesmerised by it, and so the ARP became crucial to the early development of Depeche Mode. It stayed my main sequencer for years."

Palomino (Palomino), Friday, 30 September 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Is there a software equivalent?

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 1 October 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

arturia makes a virtual Arp 2600 that comes with a virtual arp sequencer. There's one company that makes a relatively cheap (300 bucks?) analog sequencer, but I could never justify it, not when I can get a midi interface. Why should it be so expensive. 8 knobs. Control Voltage. Gate. Speed. Is it rocket science? Where's John Talbert when you need him? Oh yeah...tai chi.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 1 October 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, plus Arturia's stuff requires WOPR supercomputer technology to work. The Yamaha CS-80V is fantastic--rendering anyone who plays it a Virtual Vangelis--but my Mac 533mHz can't handle it at all.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 1 October 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Hey Dan, there are two ARP 1621 sequencers (one of which needs repairs) currently for sale on ebay. They were just posted a day or two ago.

Just thought you'd like to know!

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 6 October 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

arp sequencers are SOOOO EXPENSIVE!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

BTW, major thumbs up for Arturia's virtual ARP -- it's got the 1621 sequencer and is infinitely less of a processor hog than the CS-80V...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

There is really no reason why anything this sexy should exist on the internets:

Surrender to the queen of disco is all I can contribute, here.

Giggle Blast (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Monday, 6 October 2008 04:46 (seventeen years ago)

Greatest song ever recorded (or close enough) really deserves a better thread...

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 6 October 2008 06:12 (seventeen years ago)

three months pass...

Let's talk about this record again. And then let's play some more late 70's Donna Summer until 5 AM or maybe 10 AM. I've only begun here. I've only begun.

Sister Reed (Bimble), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:00 (seventeen years ago)

this one goes on longer.

james k polk, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:15 (seventeen years ago)

OH shit. OH GOD> OH god!!! This has got to be one of the main musical achievements of mankind.

But there's one ilxor I'm trying to reach. He knows who he is. Does he remember Donna Sumer's "Last Dance"? We played that song together many times. Are you out there? Do you remember?

Sister Reed (Bimble), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:22 (seventeen years ago)

This girl doesn't feel any love AT ALL.

james k polk, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:24 (seventeen years ago)

Donna Summer - Last Dance

Sister Reed (Bimble), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:25 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Suspiria was a mindfuck of a film, don't get me wrong. I agree on that.

Sister Reed (Bimble), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:26 (seventeen years ago)

Okay, Suspiria is goth, I admit it. Are you happy now?

Sister Reed (Bimble), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:28 (seventeen years ago)

Even better and more beautiful version of Donna Summer's "Last Dance":

Sister Reed (Bimble), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:30 (seventeen years ago)

you have to play both of them at the same time.

james k polk, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:49 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Debbie Harry needs a stake in this, damnit. Thanks.

Sister Reed (Bimble), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:53 (seventeen years ago)

four years pass...

So according to Giorgio it was inspired by the Star Wars cantina scene

http://www.theguardian.com/music/video/2013/nov/14/giorgio-moroder-i-feel-love-video-interview

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 November 2013 21:18 (twelve years ago)

That's misleading. He said he saw the cantina scene and the music in it didn't sound like the music of the future, so he decided to make the real music of the future with computers, thus "I Feel Love." So Star Wars was negative inspiration, perhaps.

Anyway, there's something suspicious about that because "I Feel Love" was released 12 days before Star Wars came out.
