I just got Madonnna's first album. Does that make me weird?

I had "Lucky Star," "Burning Up" and "Borderline" in my head all week. I even went to see the White Stripes in Atlantic City 2 days ago (which was a great show) and I still was humming "You Must Be My Lucky Star" on the drive home. So I just gave in and got it today. I don't care what anyone thinks, I'm a '80s Pop Music Junkie and I need my Madonna fix.

madonna has made more good records than the white stripes

terry lennox. (gareth), Saturday, 1 October 2005 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

I Disagree. That last record "American Life" set her back about 4 records. I think they're about even.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 1 October 2005 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

what if you count singles as individual records?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 October 2005 05:45 (nineteen years ago)

Well yeah. Singles is a different story.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 1 October 2005 05:46 (nineteen years ago)

"Burning Up" still delivers.

yes. you're sooooo weird. i've never heard of anybody liking madonna. has she even sold any records?

faith popcorn (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 1 October 2005 06:19 (nineteen years ago)

I understand what you mean, Faith. Lot's of people really love Madonna but is it weird for an Indie Nerdie guy like me to like Madonna? I guess I've been listening to "Anniemal" too much and it made something in my head click.

You're not even 20 yet, are you?

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 1 October 2005 06:25 (nineteen years ago)

"holiday" remains one of the best songs of the '80s. the rest is good too.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 1 October 2005 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

18 over here. Listen, Is it weird for an 18 year-old person, like me, to like Madonna?

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 1 October 2005 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

as long as the monsters stay under your bed, it should be fine

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 1 October 2005 06:30 (nineteen years ago)

Me being 19, I can give you some advice that you may not fully understand until you view life from the comfortable height I do; something only gained with the experience and knowledge I have gained in the year on earth I have that you lack: Madonna's first record is fucking awesome. It doesn't matter who you are, or what other styles of music you like, this much should be clear. If you feel like it's weird because you're liking music you're "supposed" to like, ask yourself why you're "supposed" to like anything, and then wonder if you really like anything at all.

I never really liked Madonna until I saw the Lucky Star video, and then I guess it was part of the thawing of my pretty inconsistent, moderately anti-pop-on-principle stance, which occurred (2 c's 2 r's--why?) when I moved from high school to college.

Oddly, I was listening to the White Stripes when I clicked on this thread, something which doesn't happen very often. (I remembered I still had their last album to check out.)

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Saturday, 1 October 2005 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

So, Voodoo Child, if your friends find out about your transgression, are they going to beat you to death with Wolf Eyes albums?

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Saturday, 1 October 2005 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

You gotta start somewhere.

Hm, that album came out when I was what...12? Good age.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 October 2005 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

Wolf Eyes would sell their supposed indie cred for one hook as compulsive and slatternly as "Burning Up."

one of the guys in Ike Yard was dating Madonna and wrote a song for her. IKE YARD! That's hip stuff! Noboby's ever heard it though.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 1 October 2005 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

you should try Maradonna's first album

mentalist (mentalist), Saturday, 1 October 2005 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Madonna sings on Joe Henry records = nothing surprises me (I mean, I know WHY she sings on them but anyway).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 October 2005 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

Not weird at all. It's a great dance pop album.
