where is the HATRED for MASHUPS?

mashups are the worst disgrace since puff daddy's half-assed rapping over spent 80's ballads. now there is an entire radio show dedicated to shredding the already dubious value of this stuff. for god's sake, I have heard dave gahan's voice pitch-distorted to a near soprano in order to beat-match it to "dancing in the street". oasis and keane sound better together? that's like saying a HEADBUT mixed with your NUTS feels like a BLOWJOB.

clearly, there is only one recourse: KILL DANGERMOUSE.

the best way I can think to do this is by cutting off his body parts and fusing on those of, say, cindy lauper. but frankly, I'm not partial.

So what's a mash-up?
What's a bootleg?
It's pretty much all the same. Also known
as "bastard pop," a bootleg is a song that's
"mashed-up." Usually, this means the vocal
track of one song is mixed over the
instrumentation of another. Using audio
editing software, DJs and mash-up artists
combine different artists and musical genres
to create new and unique songs that are
often greater than the sum of their parts.
Imagine Michael Jackson rocking out with
Nirvana, or Madonna singing with the Sex
Pistols, or Eminem rapping with No Doubt.
Can't imagine that? Then get your ass to
Bootie to hear for yourself!

I'm pretty sure mashups have been happening for as long as there have been human beings and songs though.

Bach vs Pachebel's entire canon.

Wow, I have NEVER heard of mash-ups before. Thanks for introducing me to'em!

Reeces invented the first consumer mashup. The commercials prove it!

Sorry. I'm using all of my rage quotient on the Artic Monkeys this month. Maybe in November I'll be better positioned to hate on mashups.

I really wouldn't worry about it. Why don't you get angry about the government or something?

Hatred: not a zero-sum game.

One day I turned on the radio and heard Chuck D and Flav declaiming the full lyric to 'Bring The Noise' over a jaunty, Joplinesque piano piece called 'Brittanica Rag'. That was the last mashup I ever needed to hear. That was, I felt, as far as we could go.

amusingly I just stumbled upon a channel which I think is meant to dupe people into thinking they're getting some VGM and instead are treated to surprisingly incredible mash-ups

frogbs, Thursday, 13 July 2023 22:00 (two years ago)

Hahah, that is incredible.

yeah it must be a whole group now, i think it was originally the same guy who does ClassicsOfGame

ciderpress, Friday, 14 July 2023 04:24 (two years ago)

silvagunner is great! frogbs is right, think it initially started as a parody of the channel "gilvasunner" who'd upload rips of nintendo music. there are some songs on there that left me totally speechless (through laughter or the sheer gall of putting certain songs together, and then astonishment at how well they fit). the best/worst ones keep changing the song being mashed up, it gets absurd in the best way possible

vexingvexillologist, Monday, 17 July 2023 12:47 (two years ago)

thinking about it, it's possible that channel is how i "got into music" in the first place. getting baited by silvagunner rip --> listening to more mashups on youtube --> finding neil cicierega's "Mouth" albums --> getting into Lemon Demon --> developing my own music taste from there. and i doubt i'm the only internet poisoned gen z nerd to take that path, or some version of it!
