deadite alright (14:20:02): haha we should make a 'pitchfork closes...list social repercussions'

So what would the social repercussions be if universities the world over blocked access to Pitchfork?

With no slsk or PFM Hari will now have to BUY whatever SUPERMARKETS recommend.
Unless theyve blocked access for Parkinson too.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Monday, 3 October 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

Maybe theres no social implications if PFM closes then hari. Maybe students would just flock to ILM instead.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

Not as lucky as those ignorant souls who mercifully still think 'clap your hands say yeah!' is an instruction.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Is it like the James fans who sit down?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

It's like the non-James fans who want James fans to sit down (and shut up) forever.

So what would the social repercussions be if universities the world over blocked access to Pitchfork?

People who think they are hipper than Pitchfork readers and emotionally retarded enough to think that any sane person gives a shit would have to think of some other narcissism-of-small-differences target to sneer at. That's their forte, though, so they wouldn't stick.

whocares, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

it's always great when somebody POSTS TO A MESSAGE BOARD to announce that the people who post on the message board are "emotionally retarded"

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, I thought that was kind of funny. Sometimes I wonder: Is there anyone who reads Pitchfork anymore who doesn't think they're cooler than Pitchfork readers?

marc h. (marc h.), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

I've never read Pitchfork, so where do I stand?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Everyone on ILM reads pitchfork really.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Nope, really. Everyone but me, then.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Apart from the girls according to Dan. And Mark.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Lots of people who don't "like it" still read it. Know your enemy, innit?

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

I actually don't have a problem with it. I doubt Hari has either. We just thought it would be a funny thread.
I've never met anone IRL who has read PFM. I would never have heard of it if it hadn't been for ILM. But i do know plenty who read NME/Kerrang.
Does PFM really have that much influence?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to go with yes.

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

I was more thinking of here in the UK actually. I should have mentioned that.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

it's always great when somebody POSTS TO A MESSAGE BOARD to announce that the people who post on the message board are "emotionally retarded"

If you want to take issue with my post, read it first, and try to understand it as best you can. It's not difficult. To summarise, people it describes as "emotionally retarded" are those who:

1. Think they are hipper than Pitchfork readers; and
2. Think this will impress people or that it is some kind of achievement.

Now consider the proposition that *everyone* who posts to the board is emotionally retarded. That's the proposition you didn't like and inspired your clever put down, isn't it? The only problem is - well, nobody but you made it, did they?

But it's always great when someone who thinks they are being super duper clever reveals with every utterance that....... how can put this nicely......... they're actually not, in fact, very bright at all.

whocares, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I left a turkey sandwich out all afternoon and i came back and ate it and the bread was like toast.

Yes, it's like Ned and National Review Online.

I would like to know why Hari's university blocked Pitchfork. Is this the only site they blocked?

You'd know.

Yes, it's like Ned and National Review Online.

A pungent comparison.

Im not sure its blocked...but everytime i try to load it instantly tells me NO.

Also, i only found this out when roxymuzac linked me there yesterday. I don't read the damn thing.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

You'd know

I wondered who would come up with that one first. No points for guessing, originality or unpredictability never a strong suit, I give you arselicker extraordinaire, a man who can generate a ton of of bumptious self-importance from less than a gram of achievement, the World's Smuggest Man, Ned Raggett!!

(It's so worrying mothering someone you've never met and who is only eight years younger than you.)

XD I actually know one guy online who fits every negative generalization of Pitchfork readers, but you're right for the most part. It's kind of like how everyone thinks everyone on the internet is a pervert and yet no one identifies themself as one. The criteria for being a "pervert" or "pseudo-hipster" is always associated upwards towards some delicious strawman.
