and he didn't rap the "N" word.

Old School (sexyDancer), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Thank you, Chris Farley.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

maybe he bought the censored version?

JaXoN (jaxon), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Was he doing the "broke, broke" clean version, or did he just fall silent?

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

he just fell silent

Old School (sexyDancer), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

BUT SHE AINT MESSIN WITH NO BROKE SREGGIN

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

What did he say instead? "She ain't messing with no broke suckas?"

"brothers"?

"nuh-uhs"?

"ninjas"?

damn, crossposted

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

crossposted and outroffled

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

sadly true. I am lame

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

I had the song stuck in my head all Saturday and I was singing the chorus over and over again to my friends. And I just left it hanging after the "broke" before starting at the beginning.

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

But that means you never got to "go 'head girl, go 'head get down", which is the funnest part to sing!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

i like to sing the kazoo/saxophone noise at the end

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

doesn't the radio version subsitute a "uh-huh" there? it would be lamer to rap along with that insert than to fall silent

tremendoid (tremendoid), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Well maybe not the beginning, but I just like "I ain't saying she's a gold digger" and doing the Kanye whiplash dance.

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

The radio version goes "broke uh-broke."

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 3 October 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Good thing he wasn't singing "Crack Music," then.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 3 October 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

Kanye should do the comedy Gwen Stefani "D'oh, I just said a swear!" hand over mouth thing in the video.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 3 October 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

Was Kanye the black guy you passed on the street?

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 3 October 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

were you on your way to a kill whitey party?

I Was Walking By A Black Guy On The Street Passing Out Fliers Wearing Headphones And Rapping Along To Kayne West's "Gold Digger,"

Why were you passing out fliers that were wearing headphones and rapping?

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Whoa a real live black guy? The first thing I would've done is run home and posted about it on ILM.

deej.., Tuesday, 4 October 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

Why were you passing out fliers that were wearing headphones and rapping?

Hahahahaahahahahahaaaaa

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Grammar schooled!

Old School (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Isn't that song insiduous? Stealthy -- first couple times its blah but then suddenly you can't stop rapping along in your head.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

the video does a lot too. his "spasm move" is pretty fun.(about the censor thing in the US I don't really understand how it works : is there a law or something that says you can't use some words in certain contexts ? i'm not talking about "nigger" which has only one meaning, though).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Maybe he was listening to the SNL broadcast (which was pretty good, Kayne brought a 20 piece string section that did not suck - also did a funny bit where he runs into a visibly nervous Mike Meyers on the way to the stage).

Anyway, on SNL it sounded like:

I ain't saying she's a gold digga
but she ain't messing with no broke
I ain't saying she's a gold digga
but she ain't messing with no broke
get down girl go 'head get down

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

I really like the radio edit! The way it cuts off and echoes after 'broke', the rhythm's more interesting than when the rhyme is completed.

cis, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

seven months pass...
Having never actually heard this on the radio, and having just heard an MP3 that I believe to be the radio edit, I have to ask: WTF? Is the incredibly irritating version of the song with all kinds of explosions and goofy sound effects and ill-conceived stops and starts really the mix that made this song such a big hit? Really?

hahahaha!

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Friday, 19 May 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Deric, I dont remember any explosions or goofy sound effects, are you sure you don't have the Dr. Demento mix?

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 19 May 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Check it out for yourself: "Gold Digger (Deeeeeemented Party Mix)"

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

uh, yeah, that's really obviously taped off the radio from a mix show. a lot of DJs like to drop the Funkmaster Flex-style bomb sounds and sirens, but in general radio stations just played the album version of "Gold Digger" minus the naughty words.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Deric, this version repeats verses and doesn't bleep anything. In what universe would this be a radio edit?

Dan (Jesus Weeps With Me) Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I noticed the lack of bleeping after re-listening to it. I mostly just overheard it as it was playing in the background the first time, so I missed the obvious lack of anything resembling sound quality, as well.
