They're called "Lewscannon" (I'm guessing the singer is named Lew)

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

That song is called "Actress" (a biting and sophisticated commentary about a woman who thinks she can make t as an actress but isn't very good)

The album it's from is apparently called "Venus Envy"

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

But Lew's songwriting is perhaps best showcased by "Rosalyn"

http://s29.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2QHIB93JICE4L2Z84WG9WAARC4

which contains the following quatrain:

I want to get to know ya
I want to hear your stories
I want to know if you prefer
ointments or suppositories

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

sounds like a good idea for a sitcom.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

sounds like a good, good time. get thee to the liquor store and forget you have a name or any friends. then break out the big muff and go wild. i'm green with envy.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

Roger OTM.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:46 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I knew this would be your thread, Hurting. I suggest you tell them you got food poisoning.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

I have to say that I slightly prefer the Pretty Things' song of the same title as the latter selection.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:57 (twenty years ago)

I was SURE this would be a Momus thread.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

Do they read ILM?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

Haha, Matt.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

Shouldn't this thread be on The Board Formerly Known As I Love Guitar?

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:40 (twenty years ago)

Roger OTM x 2

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

I want to get to know ya
I want to hear your stories
I want to know if you prefer
ointments or suppositories

OMG AND YOU'RE COMPLAINING/FEELING TREPIDATION???????

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I've listened to both songs now.

This is totally going to be the greatest evening of your life.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

all i can say is...brace yourself, but it sounds like potential fun. also, knew this would be your thread too.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

TS: "Rosalyn" vs "EMU"

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Sounds like fun.

Here are some lyrics you can blow them away with spontaneously:

Don't want to talk about
nothin' too serious
stop for a minute, get off the world
and have a beer with us

I don't mind if I blow my wad in the first five minutes
got plenty more where that came from
if you can take it, I can give it
but can you dig it?

I like
feelin' kinda goofy
well alright, you're lookin' kinda juicy in your lowrise jeans
My eyes are winkin', I call it blinkin' and I blame it on the drinkin'
but you know what I mean

THREE SHEETS TO THE WIND
BUT I'LL STICK YOU SIX WAYS FROM SUNDAY
and it's only Saturday, soo...

LET'S GO
TO MY PLACE
where I'll fuck you all night
YES FUCK YOU ALL NIGHT
FUCK YOU ALL NIGHT
(2x)

I'll give you pancakes in the morning and cab fare, too

LET'S GO
TO MY PLACE
where I'll fuck you all night
YES FUCK YOU ALL NIGHT
FUCK YOU ALL NIGHT
(2x)

What Do You Think?, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

this could be potentially awesome, so quit yer whining!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

the thing that makes rosyln is that they don't bury the oitments or suppositories line..they highlight it with some harmonies!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

i wish i had an office

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

i don't know if i'd call it a quatrain when you're there... like, don't be all, "i took particular notice of one quatrian from your piece entitled "roslyn'."

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

This is Lew, everybody. Chris Semal.

two months pass...
It's on. This Saturday. I will attempt some sort of recording if possible.

Erm, is it too late to have a mod google-proof this thread? (just the "l3wsc8nn0n" and "chr1s s3m@l" parts

Abbadabba Berman (Hurting), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Today. Woohoo, I'm gettin psyched.

*Jazz Douchebag* Berman (Hurting), Saturday, 10 December 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Could you please upload the mp3's again?

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 10 December 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had an uncle like this.

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 10 December 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

This was totally fun, actually. I'm really glad I did it. I mean it wasn't the greatest musical experience of my life, but my uncle's friend turned out to be a swell guy, and I don't get many chances to play straight-up 70s riff rock.

BTW, apparently "Rosalyn" is a sly song about hemroids.

*Jazz Douchebag* Berman (Hurting), Saturday, 10 December 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I'll post them again in a moment.

*Jazz Douchebag* Berman (Hurting), Saturday, 10 December 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

a wonderful story come to fruition! Riffs for everyone!

regular roundups (Dave M), Sunday, 11 December 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

My drummer's girlfriend's mother's boyfriend has his first album coming out soon. It contains the song "Cialis, Levitra, Viagra", complete with Hanna-Barbara sproink-boing! sound after the chorus.

AWESOME

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

My dad and I had a years long standoff/argument when I was in high school because he wanted to play bagpipes in my band.

Z S, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 23:16 (seventeen years ago)

LOLLL

RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

then you came to your senses...

Kerm, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

Once my dad found out about a show I was playing in a bar in Mnpls (which we got under some sort of bizarre circumstances involving mistaken identity) and brought like ten of my family members to watch. That was weird enough, I can't imagine playing WITH any of them.

RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

Actually I would totally play with my dad if he picked up the guitar again.

RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

Good luck, Hurting. Report back on results of show, plz.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 31 July 2008 01:12 (seventeen years ago)

Mott The Hoople - The Golden Age
Improvised Jazzy Jam
Improvised "12-Bar Blues" (was neither 12 bars nor a blues)
Workin' For the Weekend (two-different-keys remix)
