Will accelerated pop culture/technology lengthen or shorten an artist's longevity?

I can't decide. On one hand, it seems like the audience is developing a shorter attention span. On the other hand, I think the demographics are expanding. I don't think listeners are turning away from music in their mid-30's like other generations were prone to. And this may suggest that artists will be able to maintain their fanbase longer. I dunno. What do you think?

I think what you'll see is that with cycles of nostalgia getting shorter (i.e. things take less time to become fashionable again after their inital popularity wanes), certain artists will have several career revivals over a span of 5-10 years.
