T/S: Nick Cave vs. Nick Drake

Hmm...close...but yet Mr. Cave comes out the clear winner for longevity and actually being able to kick out the jams (against the pricks whatever) AND kick the autumnal beauty, whereas our lamented Mr. Drake is pretty much a one-trick pwn-y (altho great great great at what he did)....

Not sure I like any one Cave record as much as Five Leaves Left, but the last double Cave album comes close.....Cave +1 for having a killer backing band....and being in a good band before he went solo.

After writing all this...actually not so close after all...Cave in a landslide!

I never really understood the appeal of Cave. Maybe I need to listen to more stuff.

For me, it's Drake by a landslide.

For the record:

Nick Cave Vs. Everyone = NICK CAVE*

*Now, I know this is a somewhat ridiculous statement to make, but you have to remember that outside of the obvious artistry and iconic issues, Nick Cave is also Australian. When attacked by a shark, most surfers have a limb bitten into, or clear off. Australian surfers, on the other hand, have been known to put the shark in a headlock and punch it in the snout until said shark retreats in disgrace. This has been documented, and sums up just about everything there is to say about Nick Cave, in my opinion.

Did Nick Drake sing "O'Malley's Bar"? No. No, Nick Drake did not sing "O'Malley's Bar." Winner: Cave.

Love'em both, but Nick Drake -- and this will piss lots of folks off -- just seems a bit too monochromatic to me. Great when you're in the mood, but not ripe for every occasion. Not that Nick Cave is, but he can bring you there, regardless of your mood. Nick Drake, when you're not in the mood, is just irritating (in my opinion).

Haha. And all Australians, naturally.

This is arguably not a proper answer, but I'm feeling:

Birthday Party Cave > Drake > post-Birthday Party Cave (though I like all and there's not a lot in it)

Completely true. I haven't been in the mood to listen to Drake in years though. Something about that whispering fey voice that makes me say "Not today, Nick. Not today..."
