if the album is tagged wrong, the artist will be blank, or the album will be blank. just re-enter the info.

Just grab all the files for the album while in iTunes and retag any blank fields (artist, album, etc.) that will put them all back together again.
Also, clearing out the "of" track # field can prevent albums from getting out of whack.

Yup. One of the bands this happens to is Pavement. Click on one folder in the iPod and you see their albums along with some of their b-sides. Click on the other folder for Pavement, and there's the exact same discography. Usually in the past when this would happen because of something like "Echo & The Bunnymen versus Echo + The Bunnymen", some songs would go to one side and some songs would go to the other. You wouldn't see the same song in both folders unless that song was burned into the iPod twice. Trust me, I don't have all of those wacky Pavement songs burned twice.
I just checked for sanity's sake, and yup, all the artist tags are marked Pavement. It's a weird problem that I can't find an answer for . Long as the damn thing keeps playing, I guess I'm doing okay.
