I'm not sure so far, there's not too many new bands coming but more to be announced. It'll be around Nz $110 which is about $75 US or 45 of your british pounds.

Announced so far...

The White Stripes
Iggy and the Stooges
Franz Ferdinand
Kings of Leon
Mars Volta
AFI
Sleater-Kinney
The Magic Numbers
2 many djs/soulwax
A bunch of local bands.

Dude, Iggy Pop & The Stooges. Of course it's worth going. It's the first BDO in like half a decade that doesn't half a mediocre lineup!

Hat (Hat), Thursday, 6 October 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

definetly one of the strongest first announcements for a few years (much better then last years lineup) and there are generally a few slightly more obscure bands announced in the 2nd announcement.

not to mention the hip-hop.

but yeah, stooges + sleater kinney are the ones that are forcing me to cough up for this. the locals, although nothing too special, are also a step up from last year.

I saw Wolf and Cub last year (they're a local Adelaide band and will be at the BDO), they were pretty cool. So if you want to see a pretty good local act, see them.

Hat (Hat), Thursday, 6 October 2005 02:52 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I'm sure that this combined with the followup announcement will mean I'm going along. Hopefully there'll be some interesting dance music related acts in the second announcement.

Wolf and Cub sound interesting but won't be making it to nz; from the looks of it Gerling and the living end are the aussie bands coming over.

Bn1 (Bn1), Thursday, 6 October 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

yeah wolf and cub are pretty cool, if only for the fun novelty value of watching two drummers.

actually now that i've looked at the locals that have been announced so far, them and gerling are the only ones i would pay money for.

although i have seen a lot of the others before...

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2005/10/05/1128191786053.html

"Lees urged Stooges fans to buy a ticket to the festival early because the seminal band would not be playing any sideshows."

acidmouth (acidmouth), Thursday, 6 October 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

Big Day Out promoter in urging public to buy Big Day Out tickets SHOCKAH

That article also describes the Pixies as a "more high-tech, more in-your-face-type presentation", and says that Dei Hamo is Australian. Quality journalism!

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 6 October 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

"Co-organiser Vivian Lees said the return to rootsy, low-tech rock came by accident, after first-choice headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay and the Pixies became unavailable."

Wow, the lineup could have been far worse.
