All your base meets Mr. T

Being an owner of Zero Wing on the megadrive, I was laughing at the "All your Base..." thing when i was about nine. The joke hasn't really got musch funnier since.

internet humour needs to take it's piss- poor attempts at comedy based on exploitation of broken english and ram them up it's metaphorical ass. a 1-800-COLLECT commercial beat you to ironic enjoyment of mr.t, for christ's sake, and redneck stoners who watched a-team in the 80s were doing it first. that 'all your base' bullshit is just mahir wave two, and a load of pathetic racist xenophobia (much like mahir), which really says a lot about what people on 'the web' find hilarious.

"Been there, done that" I can hear you say. How silly. Maybe I never saw the AT&T commercials! Can you imagine?! Oh goodness, that's so 1995! You upward-nose-turning pseudo-intellectuals need a good smack on the behind. I thought the EXECUTION of the .swf file was very well done. I never found the original idea very amusing, just the fact that Mr. T came and kicked their ass with a million point shot. And, yes, it's just SOOOOO racist to make fun of bad engrish tlansrations. Um, no it's not. It's making fun of the translations. Kind of like if you go to Mexico and you can't speak spanish. You sound funny. Get over it.

Racist xenophobia? I disagree. Mistranslations or misappropriations are universal and therefore universally funny. I've had Japanese friends that go into fits of hysterics when they see some of us 'silly westerners' sporting tatoos or wearing T-shirts littered with completely nonsensical language characters that we obviously didn't quite understand either. In fact I have a 'trendy' shirt from Abercrombie and Fitch with three Chinese characters on it that a friend of mine from Hong Kong tells me mean something approximating 'Buddha', 'hand', and 'tangerine'. I wear it because reckless ignorance *is* often funny. Even if it's my own. :)
