the High Dials!

There doesn't seem to be much about this sensational Montreal band on ILM. Since I am currently listening to them at work. (i'm at work, they're not here. Not in body, at least.)
I have sorta liked them ever since they were the Datsuns, but their recent album War of the Wakening Phantoms is frigging awesome. Probably my favourite record this year.
It's a big fat psych-pop epic with intense handclaps, dramatic lifts and builds and, I swear, nobody closes a song better than this band. I could probably just listen to the last 30 seconds of every song and be half-satisfied.
I think they just finished a West Coast tour opening for Brian Jonestown Massacre.

they've been lauded like hell by my local record store. i dig the whole rainbow quartz scene, but i've been too overloaded to give them more of a chance.

I've pretty much liked them since their Datsuns days too. I only picked up Wakening Phantoms a couple of weeks ago (sometimes a special order takes a bit), but the first few listens have been satisfying. I really like the direction the band's taking.

"Your Eyes are a Door" is blowing my mind for the third time today. It's almost what Everly Bros would sound like as a dub act performing at a science fair.

I dig the Rnbw Qtz biz too, but sometimes it feels like they spread themselves a little thin with too many similar sounding releases (which is, I think, what msp was saying). High Dials are sorta outside the typical RQ power pop dynamic.

i like this band, love the quartz, and quietly wonder to myself why there's no outrageous cherry thread.

Our Love... is fucking magnificent album. Similar to the new New Pornographers (hey, Carl "A.C." Newman even raved about it on Amazon!), only even better.
