I've only heard 'Bucky Little Wing' - anyone heard anything else? From the song title I thought it was going to be some horrible MIA + Hendrix mashup but it turned out to be a pretty good, sounded like Daniel Johnston with thug lyrics about (I think) a native kid growing up in racist Canada. Now usually I frown on thug lyrics used for novelty effect in indie songs, but I saw Nick Diamonds at the Devin The Dude show and he knew all the words, so I trust this.

"Now usually I frown on thug lyrics used for novelty effect in indie songs, but I saw Nick Diamonds at the Devin The Dude show and he knew all the words, so I trust this."

Thats how you get permission to pull this type of lame crap? By knowing the words to Devin's songs? Pathetic.

...No no, he's not mocking someone else's race; I saw him post "Young Jeezy is so gully" on a blog, so he's completely legit...

OMG OMG he totally bigupped Devin The Dude on PRANCEHALL

RED HOOK Noize pwns Bushwick Trust Fund Babies (mookie wilson), Thursday, 6 October 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Not having heard them, I'd like to know what evidence there is that they're mocking someone else's race...

Sonny, Thursday, 6 October 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

I was exaggerating. I still think--if not offensive--"doing thug lyrics" is played out.

Cliffy (CliffLevingston), Thursday, 6 October 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

That Bucky Littlewing track is to be the final track on the album I believe. The rest of the album is awesome - something far more advanced than what the Unicorns were doing, but not overly polished or anything, just you know, a lot more sophisticated. Ugh, still not out of the Pop Montreal hangover yet!

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Friday, 7 October 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Oh Godness if YOU guys want to make this a racial thing, leave ME out of it! It's not like I keep up with stuff.

Jay boot me that and don't tell anyone

LeCoq (LeCoq), Saturday, 8 October 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

don't tell anyone

I already got fingered for the Wolf Parade leak (erroneously so, I might add), so ixnay on that, but if you want to stop by the Pop offices, you can listen to it at least!

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Saturday, 8 October 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

"Official Wit/Official Biographer." Probably loading gear, selling merch, drinking the rider?

I've never been to Philly - will it live up to the hype?

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

sweet. i will stop by the merch table and say hello!

no, philly will not live up to the hype. you'll be incredibly disappointed.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

yeah well Le Coq is still a racist

El Popo, Tuesday, 29 November 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

Will it be too cold to skateboard? All I can think of is skateboarding beside that LOVE statue.

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

skating in LOVE park has been banned for a few years now... its probably going to be in the 40s next week.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 04:12 (twenty years ago)

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

i'll be at that show too.

Jay Watts-- as "Official Wit/Biographer" do you know if islands will continue the interview antics of the unicorns.

Dave C, Tuesday, 29 November 2005 06:39 (twenty years ago)

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

No signing yet, no.

Rainbow Rocks 6 Billion, Saturday, 3 December 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

five years pass...

Nick Diamonds new solo album, I Am An Attic, free (if you want) on bandcamp is pretty good!

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

seven months pass...

How's the new album? I haven't heard a whole lot of talk about it.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty boring as far as I remember. The label was even hesitant to release it from what I've heard.

Evan, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

That probably explains why the coverage has been pretty quiet.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

I wish Unicorns would just re-unite already

Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

pitchfork gave it a good review

Poliopolice, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

three months pass...

got around to listening to this latest album. it's boring.

Poliopolice, Friday, 8 June 2012 19:16 (thirteen years ago)

typical "broke up with my longtime girlfriend" confessional crap; the first album is a lot of fun, this is a drag.

Poliopolice, Friday, 8 June 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

love Return to the Sea, what happened :(

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Saturday, 11 May 2013 04:12 (twelve years ago)

i saw the latest incarnation of Islands last week. i have to say that it was kind of depressing. The crowd was excited to hear stuff from albums 1 and 2, but after that... well, not so much. Now, I'm not that familiar with anything after albums 1 and 2 but the songs I didn't recognize at this show seemed really dull.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 17 October 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

"Return to the Sea" is a very diverse and very good album; it really should have gotten more attention.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 17 October 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

also, Nick Diamonds was acting weird at the beginning of the show, grabbing other peoples' beers and drinking them, and doing pushups on the main floor. it was all theater, i suppose, but it kind of felt like he was trolling to alleviate his own boredom with the concert routine.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 17 October 2013 17:00 (twelve years ago)

very little promotion for the last 3 albums for some reason. perhaps they need a better label?

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 17 October 2013 17:22 (twelve years ago)

There was some issue with the label refusing to release the record prior... don't really remember the details.

Evan, Thursday, 17 October 2013 17:30 (twelve years ago)

three years pass...

it's not exactly a return to sea, but all the same this is a nice single

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKaoGTDd1FE

(it's "old", perhaps there's an active islands thread somewhere or it's been mentioned in rolling indie?)
