It's on the tip of my tongue .. and it's been bugging me all day ... The only line I can remember is:

What can I do
(female Backup singers) "What can I - DO!"

It was a 70's or 80's popular song .. a very mundane song, but I just can't remember & it's killin me. I think it's someone like Foreigner or Meatloaf, but it could also be a one-hit or someone marginally cool .. I think I knew this song well 25 years ago, but I could be totally fabricating that memory.

Is that enough to go on?

Something tells me those ain't it. I'm thinking Motown, possibly Clapton, Delaney and Bonnie type stuff. But yeah, I don't have it.

This is a longshot, but could you have been mishearing Bob Seger's "Night Moves"?

Gwen MCrae - 90% Of Me Is You ?

How can I do the things I wanna do, when 90% of me is you...

I don't think it's any of those, although the thought that it could be Bob Seger went through my mind. Also, the line I mentioned I don't think is the chorus or a particularly important line - but I think it is either repeatede again later in the song, or else the same cadence/ call & response is used again later in the song with a different line.

now this is really bugging me...

"What Can I Say" - Boz Scaggs

Allen Baekeland (Allen Baekeland), Sunday, 9 October 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Peter Laughner? :)

Oh, right .. it's probably Sylvia Plath!

Boz Scaggs is a good guess in terms of what the song sounds like .. I was going to say maybe Robert Palmer too .. but I don't think it's either of them. Might even be later Roxy Music, but maybe not.

my first thought was Gwen McRae too.
