Re: "The Boy with the Thorn in his Side" - The purpose of that cover version was to destroy it, as they claim to hate The Smiths, and they recorded the whole thing on toy instruments! Bizarely some people claim it to be a favorite though.
Also, how do you mean annoying guy singer? I've always thought of both guys as having very orthodox vocals myself, with Sci-Fi Steve verging on crooning in places.
I can take or leave The Dandy Warhols, with the emphasis on 'le

An underrated, incisive T/S question. Two bands which probably rely too much on cuteness (lyrical and personal) and an inborn ability to make a song sound sweet and crunchy (Courtney Ta-Ta's "I sneeze and hits come out" could have been uttered by Manda Rin equally, right?) but whose inborn abilities are so unusual as to make the records memorable.
But in the end I don't know a Dandys song that marries cuteness with fervency as well as does "Tell It To The Kids," so Bis.

Bis.

absolutely convinced that Bis aren't gonna challenge here, but then I am a mad keen DW's man

OK, listening to Bis' first album right now. It's a lot better than I expected so far.

Bis were an awesome live band, but hardly any of their records lived up to that. Shame. Some of the best recordings are the sessions they did for Peel and Steve Lurpack where it caught more of their live energy, recorded by decent engineers.
