I've heard a lot of opinions on the subject and I'm a huge ska fan. I say the Bosstones invented ska music, hands-down. People have said I'm wrong and that Desmond Dekker (?) invented the music - but I'm sorry, his music is NOT ska. Okay ILM'ers, seriously, who doesn't think the Bosstones invented Ska?

I see I'm a bit late to the table on this, but I once got in trouble for suggesting that the first album by the Specials was all the SKA you really needed, which was -- of course -- a rather boneheaded statement that I'd like to take this time to again rescind. While it's still a fine album -- arguably the finest of its period -- it did not put Ska on the map, much less render other Ska records by the likes of Desmond Dekker, Prince Buster et al. moot.

The Bosstones haven't invented anything other than yet another reason to look with scorn and derision towards Masschusetts.
