Kool Herc didn't invent hip hop, Cliff Richard did.

(There's a point to this btw, see if you can spot it.)

King Tubby didn't invent dub, Curtis Mayfield did on "If There's Hell Below We're All Gonna Go".

(The liner notes to Curtis actually claim something to this effect!)

I've long been trying to spread this false origin for hip-hop: The Monkees' "Goin' Down," in which Mickey Dolenz jumps up the boogie and rhymes his scatty lyrical tale at a pace that directly informs Silkk the Shocker. Recently, Emilys and I also conceived of Southern auctioneer patter as a crucial antecedent to the genre - it loses something rendered as text, but try to conceive of "Bills, Bills, Bills" as a relentless barrage of "Billsbillsbills we gotsomebillsyessirree, canyoupaymytelephonebills canyoupaymyautomobills billsbillsbills do I hearfivedollars" etc.

AC/DC didn't invent jazz, but if they had, someone would have claimed they didn't.

Future Sound of London, creaters of IDM, were neither from the future nor intelligent. IDM was really created by Prodigy, before they created techno.
