Anyone seen this? WOW! No corny mugging, nothing, just a straight ahead Born to Run and frighteningly good...who else is going broke on the endless stream of reissues with bonus material?

Chills delivered as promised.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 20 October 2005 02:35 (nineteen years ago)

So what are all the albums being reissued as multi-disc sets?

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 20 October 2005 02:36 (nineteen years ago)

What isn't being reissued with bonus discs? I just plunked down a handful of sheckels on the Kinks 3-disc VGPS, and the Sonic Youth Dirty and Goo ones, and there's always more comin down the pike...glad you liked the springsteen!

Born to Run is the first album I bought on CD, in 1985. Could be time to replace that copy.

This pretty awesome, although I always find those old promo films of supposedly live performances that are actually filmed without an audience pretty funny.

Uh, isn't that a real concert?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Sunday, 13 November 2005 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

yeah...that sort of energy is always shocking and wonderful, holy Christ

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Sunday, 13 November 2005 03:05 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's just the band performing on a stage with no crowd... there's *no* footage of an audience, the "crowd noise" at the beginning and the end is very piped in, and at the end when there's a shot of the band from behind you see nothing but darkness where the audience should be. My understanding is this was a pretty typical thing to do before music videos, although I don't know how these films were used exactly... "White Riot" by the Clash and "Ace Of Spaces" by Motorhead have similar clips where it's just the band on stage with no audience.

Gunderson, Sunday, 13 November 2005 05:42 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know about those, but is the clip taken from the DVD of the London concert that's part of the box?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Sunday, 13 November 2005 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

This clip is from the concet film included with the box -- supposedly a famous show at Hammersmith in 1975. If it's fake this is a major and risky hoax!

Mark (MarkR), Sunday, 13 November 2005 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

WTF? This is definitely the footage from the Hammersmith Odeon show. There's a pro-shot video of about 3/4s of the show that's been going around for years (albeit with lesser quality: This cut of BTR is quite obviously from the same performance.

nice assortment of hats!

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 14 November 2005 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty good. I like how Max is playing what seems to be an inappropriate part, those kind of snare hits that belong in a surf song like "Walk Don't Run," but it doesn't seem to mess up anybody elses groove.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 14 November 2005 06:23 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, if you know for a fact that this is from an actual show, then I must be wrong. Nice performance either way, and pardon me if I was talking out of my ass.

Bought the box set today...the rest of the week/month/year is now officially devoted to Brooce. Listened to the remaster in the car on the way home from work...grinned like a crazy person the whole way home. It sounds beautiful. Sometimes I think remasters are a bunch of wankery, but it's the albums where you really notice the details that had never come up before that makes it like listening for the first time. Watched "Wings for Wheels" tonight, very cool little piece of work there. Will be watching the Hammersmith DVD tomorrow night (gotta save something).
