Taking Sides: Kenickie vs Strawberry Switchblade

Songs about getting drunk in the park followed by songs about being hung over after getting drunk in the park
VERSUS
Just staying indoors forever and never going to the park at all because of all the trees and all the flowers and all the buildings and the way that they tower (over meeeeeeee)?

Trying to seem clever whilst wearing stupid wigs
VERSUS
Trying to seem moody whilst wearing polkadots?

Covering Gary Numan ("I'm an Agent")
VERSUS
Covering Dolly Parton ("Jolene")

Being covered by, erm, no-one that I know of
VERSUS
Being covered by Current 93 ("Since Yesterday")

What say you?

Not that I doubt Kenickie were clever, though.

well, 'since yesterday' is absolutely wonderful, which gives strawberry switchblade the edge, but then, i know nothing else by them really, whereas kenickie have lots of good songs (best one: millionaire sweeper, i would fix you, oh lots really, there were rather good i feel, and underrated?)

so, i give it to kenickie overall...

Kenickie's album #2 was a disappointment but the first one is ace and never fails to cheer me up. Fantastic stuff and they are sadly missed (by me at least).

Always loved Since Yesterday and have been looking for a copy of the album for ages.

On the whole though, Kenickie win. Can't believe for a second that SS's album is as good as the first Kenickie.

Mark: check this (US) or this (UK) -- it appears to have most of their stuff (the versions on the "Trees and Flowers"/"Go Away" seven-inch seem to be missing, though).

Um...did I just provide entry straight into my own Amazon account? *slight worry*

This is a joke. The Switchblade take it.

Kenickie!!!!!! Everything they recorded (even Catsuit City) is godlike genius and they had the sexiest bass player in the universe.

I think Boyracer cover "Come Out 2Nite" on their new album..

kenickie. first album classic. second album genius and better in many ways than first, but suffers slightly from a vague lack of cohesion between the two main factions in the band.

and frankly, covering gary numan you're always on to a winner. er. unless you're bis... doh!

I listened to the (first?) Switchblade LP again recently and was really surprised by its consistent quality.

two years pass...
Lauren Laverne was on a Sky Documentary about Spiderman the other day. Is there some connection??

I'll watch the film if they play "I would fix you".
