Isn't Thrill Me by Junior Jack in at number 30? Isn't it the best damn new single in ages????

Or am I wrong.

Ronan, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You're right about it being in at 30. It's an OK hard house single nicking the schwoom schwoom noise from Doomsnight, isn't it?

Is the Mis-Teeq single released a garage remix (eg. the one by Bump & Flex) or is it honorary-garage a la "Seven Days"? It's excellent either way, of course.

Tim, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's Bump and Flex - they yell that a lot anyway so I assume it is.

DB Boulevard has certainly rocked my particular world this last week. I'll stick with Pete's view of No Doubt. No prizes for guessing next week's "in with a bullet" number 1.

I think 'Bad Babysitter' is really clever (in the mark s sense, I mean). I've had it since last September and it still stands up after countless listens. The album's quite strong too. She really picks un- obvious targets. You're right, Tom, about the bootleg potential tho'; there's two versions of "Keith 'N Me" on the LP with completely different backing tracks. Both work just fine.

Mis-Teeq record is excellent.

I'm currently doing penitence for saying Pink was only "okay" a couple of weeks ago. It's fab, and so is the new LP (but NB there's almost nothing else like "Get The Party Started" on it. "True Blue"- era Madonna meets Roxette would be near the mark. There's even an Aerosmith collaboration! Very 80s, in short.)

I sampled the new Alanis LP at the weekend. That's all 'business as bloody usual' as well.

Tom it's not hard house by any stretch of the imagination. And the schwoom schwoom is a pretty peripheral part to it which comes in towards the end.

Ronan, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll have to listen to it again then Ronan. I was writing the first couple of paras when it was on and wasn't about to let the facts get in the way of them. Is it the one where the sample and the beat are out of phase with each other? Like I said it was OK.

Tom, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So I mean, if you're going to be snarky, at least wait until you've heard it more than once.

Ronan, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That rule if generally applied would spell an end to Pop-Eye.

The White Stripes? And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead?

Merzbow's greatest effort yet!

I like the Alanis song. I dislike the Westlife song. R Kelly is king of the melodramatic power ballads. Kylie is name dropping her own songs. A are the new Terrorvision. Mis-Teeq are okay-ish. Princess Superstar should have been in the top three.

j>e>l, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A are old enough to be Terrorvision's Dads!

Tom, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Has he covered Journey's "Open Arms"? That would be the sign.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

next single Ned! :)

j>e>l, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you kidding or aren't you? I am not up on the world of R.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah that's the one Tom.

It's very Daft Punkesque really, but it's as good as anything on Discovery in my opinion.
