Hi - Been trying to find this song for nearly 30 years!!! Anyway... here goes.... Its about 1978ish and I'm with my dad in the Ferry pub in Cookham. A bloke puts something on the jukebox and it sounds incredible. The verse is spoken word in a sort of farmer/yokel accent and then the chorus goes all kind of psychedelic with a load of aaah kind of vocals. I know this is a tad sketchy but I was only 6 at the time. I never asked the guy what the track was cos it was so fantasic I assumed I'd hear it all the time ...... never heard it again. Might be a b-side. Any ideas? Would really appreciate any help - I've bought so many records trying to find this. Thanks Ray

Is it over 6 minutes long? Length?

Compare its sound to any another band.

i'm sorry i can't help but you might actually be better off never finding out. a similar thing happened tome as a kid and in my head i had made this song the most awesome thing ever created. when i finally heard it again after 25 odd years it actually sounded nothing like i remembered and was a massive antil climax.

There's an episode of Pete and Pete where this happens.

I heard this beautiful rocksteady/roots reggae song on a pirate radio station in London at 4 in the morning. It had female vocals and may have been called "Morning Child" and it sounded wonderful. To this day, I have not been able to find out what it was.

Was it American or British/Irish? The only thing I can think of similar to that is Porter Wagoner's incredible "The Rubber Room," which fits the description pretty well. Though now that I think about it, so would "Johnny Remember Me" by John Leyton (a Joe Meek production) - they're pretty similar. The Leyton song was a big UK hit, but nada in America.

I googled it and my original ILX question came up!

From the description above I'm going to guess it's the Incredible String Band.

Hi - thanks for the help - dont know if it was american or english but the thing I really remember was the weird farmer vocal in the verse.

ray kovacs, Wednesday, 2 November 2005 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

going by the description it's probably not 'bedazzled' by dudley moore and peter cook, or peter wyngarde's 'rape', but it would be neat if it was

Was it "Oi Am A Zoider Drinker" by The Wurzels?

this happened to me (for about a 6-or-7 year searching time) with Jefferson Starship's "With Your Love". never thought to check Starship...! wasn't disappointed, but am bemused
