regarding cutty's reply (the first on this thread): you're a nerd for pointing that out. i hope you know that? why did you take the trouble to point that out? you could've just typed up your favorite devandra banhart cd's or something in the same amount of time and energy it took to point out an error in the typing of a depeche mode album. by the way, pitchfork just called, they're lookin for interns apparently? maybe you should look into that.

corey c (shock of daylight), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 07:08 (nineteen years ago)

Cub, call me a nerd, too. Your thread's more fun that the other one (which I also posted to).

But you shud al so no that "upaide down" album is axtually title "Diana."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

you should learn to spell the title of your favorite depeche mode album right, considering it's your favorite and all.

sovietpanda (sovietpanda), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 07:52 (nineteen years ago)

These are the three albums I'm currently obsessing over:

Language, Alphabet City
Industry, Stranger To Stranger
Human League, Dare

I might be adding to that list, though. There's a Sly & the Family Stone album I'm warming up to, and I'm starting to feel the urge to listen to Gang Of Four's Songs Of The Free, which is INSANELY underrated. But yeah, as of this moment, these are the albums that I'm really, really, really enamored with.

Only if Rolf Harris releases a Kate-produced album in the interval.

Patchouli Clark (noodle vague), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

I hear on the grapevine that Rolf may well be recording with Derek Bailey...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

Patrick - please tell me more about Ippu-Do / Night Mirage.

I'm vaguely familiar with the name Ippu-Do but that's all; and I'm immediately intrigued by anything that's rubbing shoulders with The Correct Use of Soap and Gentlemen Take Polaroids

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

x-post

Really really? That would rock bells.

Patchouli Clark (noodle vague), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Stewart, the Ippu-Do album is led by Masami Tsuchiya, who played guitar on Japan's 'Oil on Canvas.' And Mick Karn and other Japan members played on Tsuchiya's 'Rice Music' album from '82. 'Night Mirage' is from '83 and also has Barbieri and Jansen, as well as Percy Jones on bass. Fretless bass, steel drums, etc give the album a very organic souns; it's in the same ballpark as 'Gentlemen Take Polaroids', definitely. But it's not as precise. You definitely need to hear it (and 'Rice Music' if you haven't). It was never released on CD, but it's fairly easy to find on Slsk.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

Patrick South, you are the Paul Rymer of ILM. Impressive recall of Japan side project knowledge!! I'd almost forgotten about Ippu-Do until you gave this explanation -- and I do like Masami Tsuchiya. Damn. I will SO have to Slsk all of the aforementioned Tuschiya-related projects now. Hopefully it'll break me out of the Language-induced spell I've had over the past couple of weeks. Besides, I'm kinda missing the whole Gentlemen Take Polaroids sound. (Oh, and yes, I'm aware that my name is not Stewart. Ha.)

footlog, Friday, 4 November 2005 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

It is just 'at this point in time' though, so you're afforded some element of contrivance.

My Matthew Valentine pick is contrived, but it's still fucking great.

"yes, we're desperately trying to impress you footlong."

If you look more carefully you'll see that's actually footlo_g - so there's really absolutely no reason to bother trying to impress him.
