is the new koenji too lacey? prettiest album yet no bad thing but little stuttering stammering operatic monk metal in evidence.
is the new lightning bolt too leathery? rockabeatin heads down no nonsense boogie woogie but where is the poptones mista? no 13 monsters again - maybe a tall order.
who wins the slapdown?
21st century's Japanese kaliedoscopic Shakatak or Creedence Lightning Revival ?

new Koenjihyakkei is a slightly different beast than the fist two koenji albums, but I would take it over anything LB has done by a long shot. Actually, of Yoshida's projects, LB is closer to Korekyojin, though I really but LB in a league w/Musica Transonic and the like

new koenji has a lot of Canterbury and RIO, which is surely a good thing for Yoshida fans, but not necessarily great for making new converts. As Yoshida gets older, he seems to show more of his chamber prog stripes, stuff other than Magma - I can hear bits of National Health, Henry Cow and Soft Machine in this. (and I think the missing metal is due to the missing guitar)

he is contributing to a forthcoming Magma tribue with Koenji, and adding Kido Natsuki from Korekyojin (and Bondange Fruit), so I bet it sounds more like the Koenji of old
