So...who trounces who here?

Lord Custos, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going with Creatures....I liked the Glove, but only when Robert sang ("Perfect Murder" being the highlight of the album). I forget the female singer he and Severin employed, but she stank.

The Creatures! I long ago gave away that double-45 set they did but hung on to the "Right Now" 45, and still like it. And what's that latest thing called? I like that too.

I've always had a soft spot for The Glove. Didn't they record it all in only a few days or something?

Ironically enough, Jeanette Landry (The Glove's main vocalist) was Budgie's ex-girlfriend.

I refuse to compare them, largely because The Creatures are an ongoing project while The Glove was a one-off. "Perfect Murder" is a blindingly brilliant song, but so is "Standing There". The Creatures have more great stuff to choose from, but they don't have anything quite like "Looking Glass Girl" or "Mouth To Mouth" in their catalogue.

Dan Perry, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll just Xerox Dan's answer, to everyone's lack of surprise.

Speaking of offshoots, I've got both the Kenny Morris La Main Mort 12" TOPY and that Zorgabor 12" (In Tape) by John McKay.

Both are pretty interesting period pieces. The Mort thing is creepy ambienty thing and the Zorgabor is set of Rachels-ish bowed string intruments pieces which still sounds a bit chilling like the first Banshees album. Did either of them do anything else?

I noted Steve Sevrin was still going on about hating them on his website. I had a ticket to the next night of that tour the Day aftere they split in Aberdeen (Dunfermline) and that was the only cancelled date while they got Smith up to speed. I was actually on the bus to the gig when I found out is was off.

offshoots! then my vote goes to budgie playing with the slits on grapevine.

Thank you, Dan Perry, I'm going to look for that Glove track right now.

The best Siouxsie spin-off band has got to be Cocteau Twins!!!???

Chris, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
Has anyone heard the solo work that Steve Severin has been putting out? Is it any good?

six years pass...

Oh god, "Orgy" is so damn good, I had completely forgotten how obsessed with this song I used to be.

"...my little fishes and me!"

Karin Treijer-Gaskersson (Karen D. Tregaskin), Thursday, 5 May 2011 13:43 (fourteen years ago)

ha, yeah

There are times when that album is my favorite Banshees/Cure-related project.

Dreaded Burrito Gang (DJP), Thursday, 5 May 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

I was shocked by how good most of The Creatures output was. The Bestiary comp is full of tribal drumming and Siouxsie's purring, and while later albums weren't at the same level they always had some interesting element or twist. "Anima Animus" added an electro vibe that was cool, and sometimes I think those fanclub singles like "Murdering Mouth", "Rocket Ship" and "Red Wrapping Paper" were their best!

Fight her all you want -- you'll never win

Not now, not ever, not aaaaaaanymore

The Glove ftw -- I like the way this lady sings, but I forget her name. She's really giving it 100%. I appreciate that even if the person's not the world's best singer.

Also "Punish Me with Kisses" is the best

Ah yes, Jeanette Landray. Who will remember the name of Jeanette Landray?! I'll try not to forget it again.

Here she is

I love that Glove album so much

If it's not my favorite Cure/Banshees-related release, it's in the top 3

oh hi dere I guess I'll just be repeating shit I said last year, lol

It's so good! I had forgotten about it and then, I remembered. "Like An Animal" is what I wanted/expected (and did not get) from Zola Jesus.

Really, it's not fair to put Jeanette Landray up against Siouxsie -- it's like a mouse and an elephant -- but Jeanette holds her own!
