Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

YAY Intocable wins for Best Norteno Album! They deserved it.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:15 (nineteen years ago)

THIS IS LIVE, PEOPLE*

*at least, at the point I'm writing this.

Also, if you press CC3, you can get it subtitled, but I have a dish so it won't work on my TV

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:16 (nineteen years ago)

no one? hmm. anyway, sofia vergara is attending these awards shows dressed as THE BIGGEST SEXPOT IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD, nice costume

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

Best Video should go to "Amateur" by Molotov... let's see....

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:22 (nineteen years ago)

Juanes wins for his boring-ass video. MERDE> He's gonna sweep every award tonight because he has furry macho eyebrows and lank pretty hair

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:23 (nineteen years ago)

Juan Luis Guerra doing his pleasant, hooky, but boring "Las Avispas" -- I have a huge crush on his backup singer though so this gets a pass

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:25 (nineteen years ago)

...segueing into a looser funkier piece which is playing while a bunch of very sketchy dancers get their Oscar telecast grooves on. Man, the audience be LOVING JLG y 440!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:28 (nineteen years ago)

this might be the saddest thread in the history of my involvement with ILM

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:33 (nineteen years ago)

cool, charlie brown jr. wins for best brazilian rock album (not presented live, natch)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:33 (nineteen years ago)

best banda album should be Banda El Recodo's "En Vivo".....YES!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:34 (nineteen years ago)

dude (didn't catch name) performing some soap opera theme, backup dancers got some big legs in those fishnets

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

JESS SHOULD SEE THIS: STAT!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

Is this streaming anywhere? I've already got too much PC stuff going on though. Hmmm. . . (No cable this year.)

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:43 (nineteen years ago)

I have to find a stream. Is Victor Manuelle performing this year?

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:43 (nineteen years ago)

Oh shit, reggaeton guy Don Omar taking the stage walking thru the crowd in boxing robe (entourage draped in PR flags) to do a medley: "Don Dale Dale", some other stuff. I didn't love his live album but this looks fun

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:47 (nineteen years ago)

i don't know where there's a stream, nor if victor m. is performing, but i'd say it's a good bet.

in other news, don omar CANNOT SING

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:48 (nineteen years ago)

I thought the live album was really boring too. (Sorry H, I know you'd rather have other company.)

x-post:

Univision Online is supposed to have something.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

if i could find out who it is that alex syntek and obie bermudez are flirting with, i would marry her.

DAMMIT ROCKIST I LIKE YOUR TASTE IN MUSIC WHY WON"T YOU BELIEVE ME

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:52 (nineteen years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:53 (nineteen years ago)

JLG:

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

yeah. okay, here is ol' ho hum Ana Barbara being a folkie, pretending to play the guitar...why do I get the sense that she's gonna flip el script here anytime...

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:01 (nineteen years ago)

...okay here it is, she's glammed up and gyrating in some huge two-step festival, adorable but only slightly less calculated than thalia

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

i bet bebe wins for best new artist

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:04 (nineteen years ago)

pretty weak field though --> YAY she won, she's pretty punk rock, she was doing devil horns in the audience before it started

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

jaja she got bleeped THREE times and walked off the stage like a HEROINE

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

bebo valdes won for bebo de cuba

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:11 (nineteen years ago)

okay, here comes la ley, i know they're supposed to be boring and u2ish but i like 'em anyway

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

oh dios mio his lipsynching is SO INCOMPETENT

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

i take it back, if he was lipsynching his voice would sound better

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:15 (nineteen years ago)

their drummer is pretty great though, especially during the third part of the medley when they go uptempo. okay, now the dancers are out, screw this -- dude should knock them over with his mike stand instead of doing his stupid helicopter aerobics dance

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:16 (nineteen years ago)

mex regional song: should go to intocable's "aire" but might be kumbia kings 'na na na'...the lovely patricia monterola announces that i was right about 'aire'. jonny lee garza is a wonderful songwriter and deserves this. he is five feet zero.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

obie bermudez winning was about as close to a lock as anything else on this broadcast.

now laura pausini is singing but i wish it was skinny-ass julieta venegas

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

her voice is nice and strong all right, the song is Very Dramatic but she's not convincing as una rockera

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:32 (nineteen years ago)

okay, i have to get the kids to bed, sorry about this thread

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:33 (nineteen years ago)

Can't find a web-stream, or I would join you.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:55 (nineteen years ago)

Not in putting the kids to bed, obviously, but in watching the Latin Grammys.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:56 (nineteen years ago)

haha

Tigres del Norte were just on, dudes' voices are both SHOT, but then all of a sudden skinny-ass Julieta V comes out in a blue dress with her accordion and sings a duet, it was the cutest thing evar

okay Song of the Year:

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:57 (nineteen years ago)

john leguizamo says: ALEJANDRO SANZ, "tu no tienes amor", whatevs. at least Molotov won for best rock album

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 02:58 (nineteen years ago)

Univision and the Grammys: A fine pairing of mediocre media and musical industries. They are cancerous.

Chico Fly (cantinflas), Friday, 4 November 2005 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you for your fine ideas. We will get back to you.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 4 November 2005 06:18 (nineteen years ago)

Is Elvis Crespo going to win for merngue every year (even maybe in years when he doesn't put out any albums)? I actually like Elvis Crespo, but there are other merengue acts. I expected to be educated by the Latin Grammys (no I didn't). I'll have to think about who else should have won for salsa. What period of time do these awards cover again?

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

Wasn't able to watch this (I had a class last night). Glad to hear Bebe won.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

Looking, at the other salsa nominees, I'd say that El Gran Combo's album is better, more enjoyable all the way through, and the single "El Matrimonia" is better than anything from the Anthony album. Spanish Harlem Orchestra's album is more consistently good all the way through, although I am a little bored with them. Gilberto Santa Rosa's Autentico is as good as Valio la Pena, even though it has a lot of rot on it (but so does Valio la Pena), and I think I like the best songs better. But I don't hate the Marc Anthony album, and "Valio la Pena" in particular winds people up when it gets played in clubs.

(I would take Krisppy over what I heard of that Crespo album, but Krisspy is too tipico, maybe too Dominican, and anyway doesn't seem to have crossed over in a big way.)

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

Was Belinda nominated for anything? Has she ever been nominated for anything? (Sort of a cross between Madonna and Avril.)

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 4 November 2005 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

It's possible that Laura Pausini is not the most boring singer in the history of the universe. (After all, we don't know what's occurred on other planets.)

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 4 November 2005 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry I missed this- with kiddie chaos and grandparents I didn't get a chance- but this thread makes me feel like I was there, Matt.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 4 November 2005 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Aww man, I missed the show too--helping kid with homework and then giving him meds as he was sick.

I like Juan Luis-Guerra (said so in a concert review too)although I know Matt and RS are not exactly proponents. So I will take your above comments Matt, as a compliment for the guy.

I do like J. Venegas and wished I saw her. I was thinking of getting that Bebe cd...

curmudgeon, Friday, 4 November 2005 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

My son Sammy is STILL mad that Molotov didn't win best video for "Amateur." We had to re-enact the psychic hot-dog battle this morning.

DAMN that doesn't sound right. Honestly, the video is based on a surreal hot-dog-eating competition.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 4 November 2005 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

I just looked at the presenter photos on the Univision site and what I noticed, apart from all the lovely ladies of course, was a bongo-playing, mic-wielding Andy Garcia, looking just like a clean-shaven Tony Clifton.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 4 November 2005 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

>My son Sammy is STILL mad that Molotov didn't win best video for "Amateur."

Best video should go to this Jabba-the-Hut-like reggaeton guy named, I think, Bimbo, who's got a song about filling up your gas tank - it's got ass-shaking babes in Bush, Hussein and Bin Laden masks. It's brilliant. They play it on my local Latin video channel (mun2, pronounced "mundos") all the time.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Friday, 4 November 2005 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

yum yum...maybe next year!

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 4 November 2005 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

so, phil: still rockin' that natalia la forquetina/fourcade record? ay yi yi!

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 4 November 2005 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

>still rockin' that natalia la forquetina/fourcade record? ay yi yi!

Shit, yeah. Got a review comin' in the Voice sometime soon, too, I think.

Just played the Bebe album for my wife (she doesn't pay much attention to all the discs I trawl into the apartment). She dug the anger - lately she's been kind of bent out of shape at all the creeping hippie-ism that's been afflicting female Latin alternative artists (Andrea Echeverri in particular).

pdf (Phil Freeman), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

yeah my wife thinks AE is "boring" but even she has to admit that those are some lovely mellow melodies on that record; motherhood just affects some people like that I guess.
