Buying the whole farm to get one damn egg

Which CDs have you bought for full price that are 95% rubbish to get the one golden track that you can't live without?

Let me explain: This week I had a hankering to hear Camper van Beethoven's "I Was Born in a Laundromat" off of "Key Lime Pie." Now, I haven't owned this one since I had the cassette in high school, but I do remember it was not their greatest record. But that track (plus their cover of "Matchstick Men" I guess) are to die for.

So I was looking for the easiest way to just get that track. Not on iTunes, not on emusic, not available via other more illicit methods... So I broke down and paid full price for the whole damn disc. Totally worth it to have that one song on my ipod.

Any others?

That's a good album, Matt!

Access to a quality used shop is a must in these situations.

its fucking worth it (but yeah, i'm glad i live in a bigger city now where there are better used shops) ....sometimes i wonder if what marissa marchant says isn't true....each song should be about $100/piece -pending it being genius, of course.

Er . . . I have iTunes open right now, and am looking at the track listing for Key Lime Pie . . . yep, there it is, 99 cents.

You've gotta be kidding... It wasn't there last week!!! Eesh.

As to the quality of the album, I'll probably be reassessing now that I own the damn thing. I haven't given it a full spin since 1990 after all.

That album is great. One of my favotires, and definitely one of the coolest recorded discs I've heard.

Anyway, close to the thread, I recently downloaded the entire Suede catalog, most of which I owned already (singles and whatnot excepted), just to get the Eno-remixed "Eno's Introducting the Band," which I couldn't find for individual download anywhere else. This was all illegal, mind, so it didn't cost me any more than time. But, er, time is money.

Admittedly I only paid $2 for my copy, but it's a damn fine record all the way through. But if you're right when you say it's one their weaker efforts I definitely need to check out their other stuff.

Funnily enough I did this with the first Camper album (for, natch, Take the Skinheads Bowling)

Nada Surf - whatever album Popular is on.

Paris Angels - Sundew (for Perfume)

Heh, heh, I can't believe I bought that last one - I already had the 12"...

Type O Negative - Life Is Killing Me

Just on the basis of "I Don't Wanna Be Me". It cost me about £17 and that was the only good song on it.

I'd have to say The La's self-titled (and only!) release....even though it has some fairly decent tunes throughout, "There She Goes" is so utterly unlike anything else on the record that it took me forever to appreciate the rest for the somewhat catchy ditties they are.

I still generally put the CD in for one track, though..

I've bought multiple comps of New Orleans bands just to get one or two tracks I haven't heard before.
