What? How does this = jumping the shark?

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 4 November 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

FF is already such a caricature of itself, to go and cover its analogous self-caricature of ten years ago is either brilliantly house-of-mirrors meta that I can’t get my head around, or just....gross. Like on cruises when they give you lobster-stuffed clams. Keep it away.

Dr. Gene Scott (shinybeast), Friday, 4 November 2005 04:58 (twenty years ago)

How are Franz more "a caricature of themselves" than tons of other bands?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 November 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

'a caricature of themselves' seems about as meaningful as the term 'alternative'

john p. irrelevant (electricsound), Friday, 4 November 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

Wait, Air were a self cariacature ten years ago? FF is a cariacture of themselves? How are they analogous? It's been a while since I took the SAT.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 4 November 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

shhhhh... "a caricature of themselves" = teh ghey

rogermexico (rogermexico), Friday, 4 November 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

a caricature of themselves

this "phrase" has totally taken off ever since someone used it in a comment in the seinfeld part of the jump the shark site.

big ups and mad props to whoever originally wrote it

Have you not read "Here are some restaurants you're not rich enough to eat in" column in The Guardian then?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 4 November 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Yay, 274 post "Loose Women discuss indie" style thread!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

"Indie- is it a good thing, or a bad thing?"
"Well I think it's a good thing, apart from when it's a bad thing, in which case IT SHOULD BE BANNED"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Loose Women? Where?

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

ITV

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Hackles down, fellas. Like Air, FF is topheavy with schtick, to the degree I can't really get with the music. My loss. Like Air, their style (and references) come off too studied, labored. But that's just me. Shark lobster clam etc.

Dr. Gene Scott (shinybeast), Friday, 4 November 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

it's disgusting to think of a lumpenindie band covering swooning french gorgeousness!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 4 November 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

You are the Metrosexual Jesus Christ himself!

zeus (zeus), Friday, 4 November 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 November 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

i was really confused for a minute cuz i didn't remember air ever having done a version of "Sex Boy" in the first place

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Friday, 4 November 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Air covering Franz Ferdinand's cover of the Gun Club's "Sex Beat," as originally performed by Soft Cell wherein "Beat" was mispronounced as "Dwarf."
