Yeah, I thought I was above this myself...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Yes!

dan. (dan.), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

All the way through even!

dan. (dan.), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

what are the best Hole tracks that weren't singles?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

Yup. I actually listen to Hole more often than Nirvana.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

what are the best Hole tracks that weren't singles?

"Northern Star"!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

"Dying"! "Heaven Tonight"!

Celebrity Skin is still an all-time top, ohh, 20-er. At least.

Alex in Rotherham (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

miss world, plump, gutless, awful...

dan. (dan.), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

those are songs, not criticisms.

dan. (dan.), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

I also really like the My Body the Hand Grenade compilation.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

(haha i didn't even notice this was a parody thread)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

"I think that I would die" was always my favorite. just that part where she screams "fuck you"

Fetchboy (Felcher), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

i find that listening to the hole album, instead of just skipping to the tracks you like, makes me appreciate the singles in a different, more complimentary, context.....har har

jonnyblank (jonnyblank), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Aw, I listened to "Live Through This" and "Celebrity Skin" back to back today. Fabu. Wouldn't touch that first record with a ten-foot pole, though.

ng-unit, Saturday, 5 November 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

Best Hole non-single: "Use Once and Destroy". Nobody agrees with me on this, but it really is. Well, either that or "Northern Star". Also, "Heaven Tonight" is the best song from a parent to a child EVAH, and "Softer Softest" is just fucking brilliant too.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 5 November 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

I just listened to "Celebrity Skin" after reading ng-unit's post. "Malibu" made me feel stupidly happy. "Northern Star" gave me goosebumps. The outro to "Petals" and all of "Dying" nearly gave me blue emotional moments.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 5 November 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

It's all bullcrap. Admit it.

paulhw (paulhw), Saturday, 5 November 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

I actually listen to Hole more often than Nirvana.

Doesn't everyone? They have more, y'know, good songs.

A few not yet mentioned on this thread: "Boys On The Radio," "Reasons To Be Beautiful," "Awful."

America's Sweetheart has a lot of good stuff too, even if it's not technically a Hole album.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 5 November 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

I've been meaning to revisit Hole now that America's Sweetheart finally got to me.

'Twan (miccio), Saturday, 5 November 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

I feel like I'm missing nothing knowing jack shit about Hole. In fact like being quite ignorant in this regards, were I can say brilliant and Hole never ever belong in the same sentence.

Carry on…

BeeOK (boo radley), Saturday, 5 November 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

No, no one is listening to Hole albums. She can't sing. Get over it. The end.

I've seen beautiful pictures of her, though if that counts for anything.

Bimble The Nimble, Jumped Over A Thimble! (Bimble...), Saturday, 5 November 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

You're right, edward o. "Use Once and Destroy" is a damn fine rock song...

Chico Fly (cantinflas), Saturday, 5 November 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

Yeah "Use Once & Destroy" is awesome! So is "Awful" and "Boys On The Radio"! In fact I'm not sure if there's a single song on Celebrity Skin I dislike.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 5 November 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

I thought "Reasons To Be Beautiful" was probably the weak link, but only comparatively, as it's still pretty good. I just think the other 11 are all varying shades of genius and that one's just... good.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 5 November 2005 06:32 (twenty years ago)

There's a couple boring songs (Tim) but overall yeah it's pretty carefully inoffensive, that isn't a bad thing to be at all, anyway I'd listen to it if I owned it, my friend played it a while ago and it was good!

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Saturday, 5 November 2005 06:34 (twenty years ago)

Probably the other song that's only just good is "Playing Your Song" - i.e. the two tracks which carry the torch for angry emotional rocking out are the weakest!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 5 November 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that one too. Actually, I like the lyrics of "Reasons" a lot, just not the music that much, and I like the growly angst of "Playing" a lot, I just think the lyrics are a bit ham-fisted.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 5 November 2005 06:55 (twenty years ago)

OTM

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 5 November 2005 07:03 (twenty years ago)

I mean that's going from memory because clearly nobody actually still listens to Hole albums, eh.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 5 November 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

hm, I listened to Live Through This today...

stephen, Saturday, 19 January 2008 00:40 (eighteen years ago)

"violet" shuffles on sometimes and then i'm all like "shit, this rocks," and then i don't hear it again for six months.

Emily Bjurnhjam, Saturday, 19 January 2008 00:45 (eighteen years ago)
