Are they both superhumanly idealized torchbearers of integrity or just preachy, hprocritical bigmouths long past their sell-by date?

By their own admissions, they're also the best of friends, so it's sort've a pointless excercise, no?

Well, Fugazi's last 3 albums are all rather good, especially the most recent one. And I've never seen Rollins do anything particularly inspiring, except get thrown through a window by Pacino's stunt double.

Henry's great as long as he sticks to standup comedy, but Ian's musical career is consistently great. Apparently both of them can be right assholes (a friend of mine has a Mackaye story from a local fundraiser, but I don't remember it well enough to tell it, just enough to say that he acted like an utter jerk, apparently).

See, the thing is, I wouldn't consider Rollins a "superhumanly idealized torchbearers of integrity" because I think his integrity is overstated (if he was that standup a guy he never would have done those Gap and Apple ads), but I'll admit that he definitely has his principles and seems to stand by them. I even dig his political polemic even when I don't necessarily agree with all of it. Mackaye, on the other hand, has never put a naked woman on the cover of his album and then lunkheadedly tried to justify it as "a parody of other such covers"...for that alone he gets the nod.

HR: "What's wrong with being sexy?"

Andy K, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing, just so long as you don't hire someone else to be sexy for you.

henry rollins is funny but only when hes not trying to be. however when he does standup it is painfully unfunny.

Rollins is really a knuckleheaded jock, but his spoken word is occasionally pretty cool ("On The Virtues of Black Sabbath" was funny as hell), and his spell with Flag grants him tenure... McKaye is probably a little more visionary as a musician and I think has earned a signifigantly higher place in the American underground... you see a lot more shy kids around in Dickies and All-Stars than shirtless, shoeless, musclebound motivational speakers.

Henry Rollins could easily take Ian MacKaye, man. Ian's a little dude and Henry's like the Hulk. Musically, though, Henry sucks and has always sucked and should probably have his mouth sewn shut so I never have to hear/read another word spewed from his meathead brain. I like Ian.

hardcore singers are mostly pocket monsters. especially str8edgerzzz.

ian: one of the greatest hardcore frontmen/singers of all time

henry: um, ominous looking when he had the long hair and smelly gym shorts and a suitable frontman personality with black flag but really one of my least favorite hardcore singers of all time.
