buyabiznatch (buyabiznatch), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

IIRC "Two Nuns..." has two good songs on it. Sounds like you've found more?

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

er, no contest. 'songs about fucking' all the way.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

i never liked rapeman when i heard it a few times at a friends house.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

"Two Nuns and a Pack Mule" is a quality album, but it doesn't come close to "Songs About Fucking."

Schade (Schade), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

big black's worst stuff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> rapeman's best stuff

(and *songs about fucking* isn't big black's worst stuff. though it's not their best, either.)

xhuxk, Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

they're basically equal. take a few fucking ">"s out of there.

The Voice of Reason (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

rapeman by a mile.
marmoset is a rip roaring beezer smash rock-a-boogie pop parade HIT!
columbian necktie is the most tedious, terrible song i can remember.
nomeansno over either any day.
imagine nomeansno if had invited albini to play guitar after andy kerr left. that'd been ok maybe.
albini's guitarrorrists track - embarrassing

bob snoom (vestibule), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Nah, Rapeman had two good songs, and one of those was a cover ("Just Got Paid"), and the other wasn't originally on Two Nuns And A Pack Mule ("Budd," from the EP of the same name, now appended to the TNAAPM CD).

Songs About Fucking has two or three good songs ("Bad Penny," "Tiny, King Of The Jews" and "The Model"), plus the CD has "He's A Whore," though the failure to also append "Il Duce," which is 7" only to this day, is just another example of Albini's whole dickhead-on-purpose thing.

you are quite clearly deranged.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

'the model' isn't on the lp and 'il duce' came out at a completely different time to 'songs about fucking'.

also, 'bombastic outro' = best outro ever.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

No contest. Big Black.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

And I like Rapeman too.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

"bad penny" is a super funky floor filler at the roller disco - i always make sure I am wearing my most sparkliest hgotpants when i go just in case they play it

bob snoom (vestibule), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

yeah, big black by a country mile, although i have more than a little affection for "steak and black onions"

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

even tho allthat "hammer party" shit sounds sub-bronski beat ?

bob snoom (vestibule), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Songs About Fucking.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I like them both aboot the same. Two Nuns... is pretty underrated.

Vic Funk, Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

rapeman for rey washam.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Rapeman for me.

recovering optimist (Royal Bed Bouncer), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

Rapeman.

mei (mei), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

i go back and forth. lately i'd say rapeman because they had a better sense of humor and rey washam is a monster behind the kit.

michael crumsho (clikatowi), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

If I want to listen to Rey Washam I'll put on some Scratch Acid. If I want to hear Albini I'll put on Big Black. That's just me, though.

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

rapeman for me, and atomizer over fecking too

looth teeth, Tuesday, 8 November 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

atomizer over fecking too

Doesn't that go without saying?

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Big Black. I don't think this is even close.

A Big Black vs Shellac showdown might be a bit more evenly matched.

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure that "The Model" is on the Songs About Fucking LP. I'm away from home and can't check though.

SAF is so much better it's downright embarrassing.

sleeve (sleeve), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

you're right it is. my bad.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

but The Model is a cover too! And He's A Whore isn't on the original album, so what you are saying is that 2 Nuns has one good, orignal song and fucking has two?
Personally I think Tiny, Kind of the Jews is pretty boring. And I think Trouser Minnow is great.
vote for rapeman!

whatever, Tuesday, 8 November 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

Oops you were saying rapeman has zero good, original songs. Still though.

whatever, Tuesday, 8 November 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

How is "L. Dopa" not a great song too>? Which tips the blance further to SAF. Alibini = better the more he sounds like Bronsonki Beat.

Patchouli Clark (noodle vague), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

big black by miles, obviously. though "trouser minnow" is pretty amazing.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

"Trouser Minnow" is my favourite Albini song EVER, so Rapeman.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

can we refer to albini as "pigface guitarist" from hereon in just to annoy him?

bob snoom (vestibule), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

"L. Dopa" is still a gigantic kick in the balls.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

the failure to also append "Il Duce," which is 7" only to this day, is just another example of Albini's whole dickhead-on-purpose thing.

Amazing

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

Albini is really lucky to have all these people looking out for him who know how he should run his career.

The blue-green world is drenched with horse gore, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

I don't really understand how someone can like Big Black but hate Rapeman. It's basically the same fucking thing but with a real drummer.

circa1916, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

haha RONG

Edward III, Thursday, 20 December 2007 05:28 (eighteen years ago)

Rapeman is alright. Big Black is about as good as it gets. I only really like Shellac live (except for the song "Terraform").

If only he'd release the stuff he recorded with the rhythm section from Rudimentary Peni. Sitting on that is his biggest asshole move ever.

Nate Carson, Thursday, 20 December 2007 06:08 (eighteen years ago)

"Steak and Black Onions" is the only really good rapeman song, but Big Black songs about fucking is fantastic.

John Justen, Thursday, 20 December 2007 07:37 (eighteen years ago)

Xpost: thanks a bunch for the image of Steve sitting on Rudimentary Peni with his big asshole.

Soukesian, Thursday, 20 December 2007 08:23 (eighteen years ago)

Il Duce is on cd, though.

Mike Dixn, Friday, 21 December 2007 06:04 (eighteen years ago)
