When you hear about a new black metal band, or a black metal band that is unfamiliar to you, the first thing you do is Google "[band name] nazi". Far too often, you will strike nazi gold. If the band itself is not NS in some way, one of its members will have a NS side project, or they'll be on a label with NS affiliations...it's always fucking something.

Fair enough. I guess in the back of my head I was thinking of guys like Jute Gyte, who often donates his Bandcamp Day earnings to charities like the NAACP legal defense fund. And I suppose probably also was thinking of some older jokey side project bands.

that's accurate, the "nazi til proven otherwise" bit is really kinda silly -- anti-fascist black metal bands outnumber nazi ones among active bands by a healthy margin, there's like tons of them, in addition to the countless "we're just trying to make black metal we don't have anything to do with this other shit" bands. black metal is also pretty played out afaic and most of the action for the last decade has been in death metal which has its share of edgelords but hasn't historically had this radicalization pipeline that black metal's had. anyway none of this matters at all because Kanye has made his position quite clear & there's no reason to think he's ref'ing anything other than Burzum, who've always been the BM band du jour for people outside of that subculture, they're the band on the Gummo soundtrack, they're beloved of nazi-sympathetic edgelords around the world.
