Where is the amor for HA-ASH? Mexican cowgirl pop, and sisters too!

They really deserve their own thread. Hanna and Ashley Perez, teenage sisters, born in Louisiana, raised in Mexico, kicking my ass with maybe my favorite pop record of the year, which looks like this:

and sounds like this:

and I haven't stopped listening to for a week despite an influx of other great music. A little bit country, a little more rock'n'roll. One interview I found (one of the few I found that I could actually read, i.e. in English) said that their mother was a big country fan and that's what they grew up on even after they moved to Mexico. Anyway, I just loves 'em. I like how they trade off lines and verses and get together on the choruses, I like how smart and funny the singing is even though I don't understand a word. Good stuff.

A few more tracks...

This one's got fiddles and a kind of Nashville boogie beat, but goes to like a quasi-clave reggaeton rhythm on the chorus:

And they do nice ballads too:

I really like this record. So much that I went and bought their first one too, from last year, which is good too. I like the new one better, but there's some really good stuff on the first one, like these:

And the new record's got a completely great Patsy Montana cowgirl song on it -- with yodeling!

The Alejate song is great! This would make for awesome road trip music (although I dislike dust and that weird film you get on your eyes when you have to look at shit for a long time (the road, laptop screen, Street Fighter 2, etc) so I'd probably stay in hotels every two days at least)).

I wanna know more about this guy Aureo Baqueiro who wrote a lot of their songs and produced both albums. He's apparently some Mexico City hitmaker kingpin. I love his sound, he puts organs and harmonicas and electronic tidbits in all the right places.

I love their poppy stylings, but that album is 2004 for me.

WHOOPS BUSTED, you're right, that's a new one! The cover looked so much like the first album's that I assumed it was that one. I will definitely find a way to hear this.

The new one's better, I think, but I like both.

i think a lot of people have tried to interest him in them; I know I have. FUCK YEAH he would like them, if the opportunity presented itself.

There's gotta be an English-language crossover album coming. Nashville will love 'em because they can make Nashville seem multicultural.
