If I remember correctly, Bangs has a whole essay in "Psychotic Reactions" about Alice Cooper and embarrassment. Of course a lot of critics at the time were embarrassed for Lester.

It's true. When critics started wearing monocles and using the effete affection "say," they became embarrassed of a lot of stuff. Alice Cooper's vomit in their hair, et al. Kind of like when Eve noticed Adam's Genesis-style pong and got them both bounced out of the club.
