Here's the finished product.

I like it.

Steev (Steev), Monday, 14 November 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

it's aight.

more importantly, i'm actually starting to come around on juicebox...the "yr so coooooooooooold" part is enough to make the song worthwile for me now.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 14 November 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

I was expecting a lot more of the "aggressive make-out sessions" and a lot of less of the boring muso footage of the Strokes rocking out in the rehearsal studio. I don't know whether the band poking fun at their "big in Europe/nothing in America" status at the beginning of the clup is witty or just pathetic.

John Hunter, Monday, 14 November 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

That is, quite possibly, the worst music video ever.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 14 November 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Because?

Steev (Steev), Monday, 14 November 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

Thumbs-down on extraneous David Cross. I liked it more when the New Pornographers did it.

WillS, Monday, 14 November 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

I never realized the Strokes were Nirvana.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 14 November 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

It's getting to the point that David Cross is a total music video cliche.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 14 November 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

Also, this song sounds like the Offspring.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 14 November 2005 01:35 (twenty years ago)

was that courtney love washing the floor?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 14 November 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

xx-post

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 14 November 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

This band has zero redeeming qualities.

cdwill, Monday, 14 November 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

They made a bad song even worse with a terrible video

badboy, Monday, 14 November 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

no i like this video

Christopher Costello (CGC), Monday, 14 November 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

umm...that was supposed to say i don't like this video.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Monday, 14 November 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

My girlfriend just asked me if this was a cell phone commercial...

cdwill, Monday, 14 November 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

yeah, did somebody pay for those placements or are they trying to be cool like an ad?

'Twan (miccio), Monday, 14 November 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

the cutaways to the band members reaffirm my theory that no one who doesn't care about the Strokes already is going to start now.

'Twan (miccio), Monday, 14 November 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

what the hell was going on there outside the studio

mrgein, Monday, 14 November 2005 04:00 (twenty years ago)

sexy things

'Twan (miccio), Monday, 14 November 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

if one of the gay dudes was the "can you hear me now?" guy the video would have been 20 times better.

'Twan (miccio), Monday, 14 November 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

"Aggressive make-out sessions" = "Version for the band's tourbus" maybe.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Bah, I can't watch it. I want to see the pretty boys.

Lady Totteringby-Gently (kate), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

a friend of mine and his boyfriend were so close to being in this video

ZR (teenagequiet), Monday, 14 November 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

That link is dead. So's the song, I'm afraid.

Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 14 November 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Nevermind, found it:

Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 14 November 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

What kind of crazy superslimming diet has Julian been on? WHERE IS HIS ASS?!?!? I'm disturbed.

Lady Totteringby-Gently (kate), Monday, 14 November 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

Also, this song sounds like the Offspring.

I sorta see that, esp the bass riff, but someone else somewhere brought up the Stranglers, which I think is more accurate....

6335, Monday, 14 November 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

I like the single. I've heard it on the radio a few times, and it's grown on me quite a lot. I might watch the video tomorrow.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 14 November 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

When did they replace the guitarist who is not Albert Hammond, Jr. with Neil from The Young Ones?

nah, in this case he's absolutely right.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 November 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

"It's getting to the point that David Cross is a total music video cliche."

oh? how many other bands have used him? list them now, and make it a GOOD list, BBC.

for the record- based on the 5 songs i've heard off this, it's worse (somehow) than they're last album...bland vs. more bland.

eedd, Monday, 14 November 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

1. Yo La Tengo, like 10 years ago.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 14 November 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

that sugarcube video was pretty funny.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 14 November 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

that's the only one comin to mind...(ylt-sugarcube)
so...any others?

eedd, Monday, 14 November 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

The sex video with your mom.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 14 November 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

Superchunk's "Watery Hands" clip from around the same time as the Yo La Tengo one. I'm pretty sure there's at least one other I'm forgetting.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 November 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

He shows up in the Dan Aykroyd role on that new Halloween charity song.

'Twan (miccio), Monday, 14 November 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

David Cross : indie rock videos :: a bunch of different ComicView guys : rap videos

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 November 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it's not so much that he's inescapable so much as if you're gonna have ANY indie comedian in your video, it's him.

'Twan (miccio), Monday, 14 November 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Anybody hear Cross's insufferable part on It's Not Funny where he starts claiming that he doesn't listen to crap music and watch crap tv (not sure how he got that Simple Life bit then, but anyhow)? So what the fuck is he doing in this?

'Twan (miccio), Monday, 14 November 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

"Sugarcube" is the funniest video ever made.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 14 November 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

He only watches videos that he's actually in, which is why he said that.

cdwill, Monday, 14 November 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

no, he's not. i never cared about the strokes until i heard these new songs (juicebox, especially) -- this is the first strokes album i've ever thought about buying. s'cool, i'm a 'no one' on this board, anyway.

6335, Tuesday, 15 November 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

do you like the Vines? Like, a lot more than I do?

'Twan (miccio), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 05:50 (twenty years ago)

Are you a huge Nirvana fan? Do you have a shirt that says "Kurt" on it rather than "Nirvana"? Or were you 12 when Is This It? came out? Or 42? Be 'someone'!

'Twan (miccio), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 05:53 (twenty years ago)

"The sex video with your mom.
-- n/a (nu...), November 14th, 2005."

ahhh, yeah, hehe..that one...he wasn't funny in that one either. delivery's all wrong. his bitter/ironic sense of humor failed him, yet again.

so, what, 2, possibly 3? that IS a cliche, now isn't it?

and whodathunk that new strokes songs would inspire ANY new fans...

Wow, what a lame, boring video. (deletes it from hard drive)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

I just get a "not found" message.

Sundar (sundar), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

I think it's here, sundar

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

The reason the video kinda falls flat, in my honest internet opinion, is because it's all style and no substance and it runs on old, empty hipster attitudes. It's too blatant an attempt to casually shock mainstream values and do so with such incredible indifference to what's going on. HOMOSEXUALS KISSING(!) OLD LADY PRoN(!?) MASTURBATION TO IT ALL BY EDGY COMEDIAN DAVID CROSS(!?!?). Oh my goodness! And what does the band think of all these crazy attacks on American values and common decency going on around them? They don't care at all! They look almost sleepy! Take that, uptight America and uptight people in general!

The Strokes are incredibly jaded and cool throughout it all! They just don't give a shit. It's the same attitude that the VU and Television had in a lot of songs that dealt with controversial subject matter and did so with indifference musically, or in this case, the video itself. That is one of the things that got them the comparisons to those groups in the first place. It's trying to be cool in that cheesy 1970's way, it's just all indie'D up and modern for 2005.

no, no, not so much these days, no, no, no. ok! anyway -- what i like about 'juicebox': the spy-theme, birthday party-tone bass riff. how the song is made up of parts that don't seem to fit together at first, but actually work together nicely. i also like the singing a lot more than on other strokes songs i've heard. (besides "last night", which is great) someone on one of the other strokes threads mentioned it reminded them of 'hash pipe' and i thought the same thing - except i think that 'juicebox' has much cooler guitar parts.
