Really Truly Something New to Say About Pink Floyd's 'Wall'!!!

Check out the long instrumental bit at the end of "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 1" and tell me it doesn't sound a bit Afro-pop. There's those high Nigerian-sounding gtrs along with that chopping single-note thing that reminds me a bit of Thomas Mapfumo. The dubby synth effects fit really nicely on top. Am I the first person to notice this? I realise it still won't redeem the album for most, and I don't even like 'Wall' all that much any more, but I still like this track)

I like Another Brick In The Wall part 2. I like the menace in the vocal, and the way the guitar line goes.

Theoretically at least, I like all of side one of the Wall. The rest is complete rubbish. Who are these people who like Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell? They must be operated on to discover why they mishear that turgid noise as appealing music.

I don't think this counts as something new about The Wall.

They were playing it today in Tower alongside tracks from "Britney" and the Smashing Pumpkins Greatest hits.

I actually like those two tracks mentioned, too, but I still like this better. (I will keep mentioning this everytime someone else brings up The Wall.)

two months pass...
This is an absolutely fab album and if you don't agree, you SUCK! I heard a cover of Another Brick pt II the other day and it was shit, don't even ask. But Pink Floyd rules and, although I do prefer the earlier stuff with Syd Barrett, this is still great. Best tracks: Another Brick pt II, Hey You (one of my all-time favourite songs), Comfortably Numb, In the Flesh?. Since I've started, I may as well continue raving about these guys. I love them. They form the greatest band ever. Listen to "A Saucerful of Secrets", "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", and "Atom Heart Mother" if you don't think so yet. If you still don't after hearing these, continue listening to Eminem. It wont make the world a better place if you like Pink Floyd AND rap.

I just want to know what kind of mega weed smoking is going on in that family.

The Wall is a great LP simply because i bought a nice copy for 50p and sold it on Ebay the couple of months ago for 11 quid. the buyer never left me feedback though :(

Pink Floyd would be better if they'd just stuck to more instrumental stuff. it's every time Roger Waters opens his mouth to sing about his terrible middle-class childhood ("I got caned once at school!") or what trouble it is being a millionaire rock star that they're unbearable.

as for The Wall, well it's no 'Meddle', 'Saucerful of Secrets' or 'Live in Pompeii' is it? amusing that all the albums Anna recommends are the early ones

It wont make the world a better place if you like Pink Floyd AND rap.

You'd be surprised.

I don't know, that's sort of the Wyclef Jean problem, isn't it? (Assuming that liking both will make the world better, as opposed to simply liking both.)

one year passes...
Jazz, Rap and other genres of music are all crucial in making the "world a better place". We can only have an open mind to music, to the world, if we are ready to accept all these genres. A theory that music is and archetype should say a lot to people with music prejudices: it is important in moving society in different ways, no society is addicted to one type of music and Music (rap, rock, jazz, classical, disco, blues, the list goes on...) is a necessary element in making the world a better place. Therefore, it is ironic as well as a narrow-minded approach to accept one type of music as a component to making a "world a better place". I admire pink Floyd and Eminem and Metalica and Tijuana Brass and even Frank Zappa all for setting the stage and inspiring the growth of our planet and "making it a better place" And whoever says only one half of the wall is good defeats the purpose of a wall. And whoever accepts all the bricks in the wall but not necessarily lives by them is awesome!!!!
