DM's post-Alan output has been a pleasant surprise for the most part, but they were a much better band with him in it.

I love Depeche Mode and I love Vince Clark, but I still don't feel like they'd fit together musically anymore. Plus Vince Clarke is generally over the hill musically ("Nightbird" was a surprisingly good Erasure album, but even 2005 is some time ago now) whereas Depeche Mode are still making constantly great music.
But, well, I know this is a side project for both rather than an attempt to merge Vince with Depeche Mode, so I guess it might be interesting to hear.
