"Switch It On" by Will Young

It's like Al Green doing a fucked-up cover version of "Footloose" as remixed by Basement Jaxx. The harmonica over the chorus is played by Mark Feltham, the dude who did harmonica on Laughing Stock and Spirit Of Eden. Single of the year.

Bloody hell, cause I thought it sounded a bit like "Desire" offa "Spirit of Eden". That's a personnel juxtaposition I can't deal with. Unless you're just comparing it to that, but i doubt you'd go into that much detail.

The song can be seen and heard in full below, the harmonica comes in about 3/4 the way through:

It reminds me of "Suicide Blonde" for some reason.

Anything that can turn redemptionless apocalpyse wahmonica into camp disco classic has to be genius, right?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

Oh, it's genius alright.

late to the party here because i don't really listen to the radio but i'm amazed to say that i really like this. the beats are tremendous. is it number one? it should be.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

It ain't, but it's hard to tell whether it really deserved to be beaten by 'My Humps' in the charts because both vids are pretty amusing.

I do like it a bit and Will's TV performances of it are stylishly exuberant and detail-attentive.
