Is Dopesmoker really that much of an improvement over Jerusalem?

I really love Sleep, and have been more than content owning the Jerusalem version for years. But I hear that Dopesmoker smokes it. Can it realy be THAT much better? Worth buying? Isn't there an extra live track, too? Also, if I get it, I'll get the LP, but doesn't that kinda take away from the continuity? How well do they split the sides? Fades?

It's amazing to me how this thread is generated anew once every two weeks. As always: Jerusalem is the version that Sleep didn't want you to hear, the same version that London pressed promos of before deciding to drop the band. Dopesmoker is the more "official" version with an extra track that paves the way for High on Fire. You don't need one if you have the other.

Weird that this was on ILM. I just listened to Dopesmoker today while I was walking around in the rain. It makes the rain feel like hellfire. I love this album, and I love the use of Sleep in Gummo. I need to get the Gummo soundtrack by the way, it's awesome.

I've never actually heard Jerusalem. How is it different? Is it the same recording split up? Is there stuff on it that is not on Dopesmoker? Is Dopesmoker the exact product they envisioned or is even that fucked with?

"Jerusalem" is a better title for this piece of music than "Dopesmoker" as far as I'm concerned but I'd guess I'm in the minority there

Drop out of life with bong in hand

Follow the smoke to-uh the riff-filled land

Drop…out of life with bong in hand

Follow the smoke to-uh the riff-filled land

Solo One

Proceeds the Weedian – Nazareth

Proceeds the Weedian – Nazareth

Creedsmen roll out across the dying dawn

Sacred Israel Holy Mountain Zion

Sun beams down on to the Sandsean reigns

Caravan migrates through deep sandscape

Lungsmen unearth the creed of Hasheeshian

Procession of the Weed-Priests to cross the sands

Desert Legion Smoke-Covenant is complete

Herb bails retied on to backs of beasts

Arise arise arise - The Son of the God of Israel

Jordan River flows on evermore

Bathe in glow of sunlight’s beating rays

They feel so lost and burned through our days

Stoner caravan emerge from sandsea

Earthling inserts to chalice the green cutchie

Groundation soul finds trust upon smoking hose
