Apparently they have a new album out and there's a great interview with Dave King in the Onion this week. I loved the one track I heard on Mpls radio. Anyone have anything to say about them?

Why?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 17 November 2005 03:32 (twenty years ago)

Well I loathe the whole "OC Soundtrack" idea, and often used that against my Death Cab fanboy friends... but I gotta say I love this band and I hate myself for it.

Had a chance to see them 2 mon ago, but at the last minute went to the Doug Stanhope show over at the Triple Rock. God, is everyone on this fuckin thing from Mineapolis too?

why do you have to play them, I wonder?

i like them, not too bad. you're it is sexy.

bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 17 November 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

yeah, apparently the people that don't like them don't get laid. by shear coincidence.

we'd all love to try and seduce women with Rust In Peace, but Lucretia just sets the tempo to fast. Maybe Poison was the Cure

I picked up the record last night (cheap!). I ain't gonna lie, I probably wouldn't have any interest in this band if it wasn't for Dave King's programming + drumming. As it is I like it pretty well, sometimes it slides a little too far into sorority-pop for me though.

(btw I live in Madison, not Mpls, but I make it over there often enough.)

to combine two threads, these guys announced themselves with a heck of an opening (first verse of first song on first album) line: "hello little hellion/make yourself at home." (diers' delivery is no small part of its magic, of course.)

haven't the new disc yet - how does it compare?

asl, Thursday, 17 November 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

haven't heard

asl, Thursday, 17 November 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

I haven't heard the first one.

The first song on the new one is awesome, like a reverbed-out, uptempo Juniors song with a cool meter. I hoped the rest would be more like that.

I'm really not sure about this LL Cool J cover.

six years pass...

New _All Night The Calls Came In_ is fairly splendid and consistent, if you've enjoyed their others. Shares personal Venn diagram space with Stars, Prefab Sprout, Blue Nile, etc.
