five years pass...

I just heard this for the first time - freakin' great! A one-off single on Rough Trade in 1983, apparently. Anyone know more of the back story?

Fantastic song, i really need to dig a bit deeper into their other stuff tbh. i know this song is very pretty closely connected to Can cos the core of the band were in the Phantom Band with Jaki, and also the singer (Rebop) played percussion on some Can records (and on Traffic's 'welcome to the canteen' album too), but you can definitely sense their influence in the general vibe even if you didn't know any of that

did i really just write 'very pretty closely'? gah! Looking on the 'cogs, the bass player from Belfegore (Raoul Walton) gets a credit on this, which is v. trivial i know but which also pleases me greatly

The Adrian Sherwood mix of Masimba Bele was something I played a lot when I very first started DJing. I still love it. I used to have a couple of other late 80s / early 90s singles but don't recall them being that great. Never heard the album so do report back if that if you check it out, Nick.

actually i whizzed throughthe album on youtube just now and it was a lot more 90s than i was expecting! probably not something i'd go back to on the whole, but this one track was a nice surprise...

seeing that live video with Damo Suzuki on vocals scared me off Dunkelziffer for a good long time, but i think i do need to get that first album at some point. loving the last track off it ('Beside The Light'):

Digging that T.M.Y.S.

stirmonster, Thursday, 15 August 2024 22:32 (one year ago)

this is the Dunkelziffer and Damo thing btw if anyone hasn't seen it. i think one of the unknown cases guys had left by then but the drummer is the other main guy from that band:
