Just wondering if Anyone knows the name of this African song im thinking of. It has only a few lyrics "heya ma ma" which it repeats lots. Its definitely not pop, pretty non mainstream but ive heard it on mainstream radio stations. It probably came out late 90s and it has a video clip where there are lots of african people with body paint dressed up like lions, etc I have looked around for it for a while with no results

Anyone have any idea???

i remember that song. i think it was the soundtrack to an airline commercial in the 1990s. maybe qantas? must have been something flying in australia, so probably qantas.

In all honesty, you might be thinking of "Storms in Africa" by Enya (1991)

that's it! that's what i'm thinking of anyway. google says it was a qantas commercial in the early 1990s.

sounds like Batonga by Angelique Kidjo tho that was early '90s

No, it wasnt enya - that doesnt have any - 'heya mama ma' lyrics (at least 'Storms in Africa Part1' doesnt. It sounded like it was sung by a chorus of people rather than just one person and it keeps repeating 'heya mama ma' - that part is obvious in the song - heya mama ma
I cant find anywhere to listen to batonga - does it sound like it would still fit the criteria?

Sounds a bit like you're describing the chorus of "Life in a Northern Town" by Dream Academy, which has a heftly dollop of "hey mama"'s in it, as I remember.

dude i was just going to say that.

It must be "Sunchyme" - Dario G, which samples "Life In A Northen Town".

five months pass...
Anna Mwale (originally Zambian but worked in South Africa?) made an album called African Song (sometime in the 80s?) - there is a track probably called "Pata Pata" with a lot of Heya Mamas in it

Does anyone know anything about the music used in Sembene's "Xala"? Its credited to Samba Diabara Samb and google is no good on this.
