What late 80's/early 90's keyboards/drum machines were used to make the "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul?

Wasn't the Yamaha DX7 kind of the industry standard at the time?

i can confirm the DX7 (i think) by being told this by an engineering teacher who worked on this album. one of my assignments was to remix a demo of "straight up" (!!).

Paula Abdul can go suck a toad's ass.

:-O

How did you found out about this?

I'm gonna guess Roland R-8 because it was very up-to-the-minute in the late 80s and seems like something a big corporate studio would have used at the time. Second choice is an E-mu SP-series sampler.

Although it could be a drum machine (eg the Roland R8 or the Emu SP12, as mentioned above), it was becoming perfectly routine by that time (1989) to sequence drum tracks on a computer or other midi sequencer. The sequencer would trigger sounds on an external sampler eg Akai S900.

didn't they use either the Linn 9000 or the Akai MP-60

startrekman, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 06:47 (twenty years ago)

That sounds plausible. Did you read that somewhere then?
