British Sea Power Bassist Attacked By Faust
Given a black eye...

by Scott Colothan on 11/20/2005 More News...

British Sea Power bassist Hamilton was given a black eye when he became involved in a fracas with Krautrock legends Faust.

The incident happened when the two played alongside each other at the Hove Old Market in Brighton earlier this month.

Apparently, Faust frontman Jean-Herve Peron became exasperated when British Sea Power played an extended drum solo during a jamming session.

Peron allegedly confronted the band after the set, and then threw punches at Hamilton.

I am definitely on Faust's side here.

when this double bill was announced there was a precarious moment when it appeared Faust actually knew and liked BSP. what a relief.

I have BSP's cover of I Am A Cider Drinker by The Wurzels on as I type. It's quite nice

wait...were they jamming together and BSP just didn't get it or like, did they come on stage or what? Good thing Faust wasn't touring with the chainsaw...

"A cowardly sneak attack by the Bill Oddie of prog-rock!" I thought it was a joke, but it's become much, much more hilarious now that I know it really happened. It makes me feel bad for the BSP guy, probably because the article I read described him as "affable."

Faust: still punk after all these years

Dominique (dleone), Monday, 21 November 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

That was, like, a total Mark E. Smith maneuver. Being punched out for crimes of jamming inhumanity.

haha this is the most awesome news I've heard since Fitzmas

The fact that Jean-Herve Peron is basically insane and would have fought BSP for looking at him funny doesn't reduce my enjoyment of this story.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 21 November 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

I shouldn't lauhgh, but fucking hell, this is funny. BSP pwn3d by noise.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 21 November 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

How could BSP play a drum solo unless Faust let them? Surely they could have played on top of him and it would no longer have been a solo?

I'm not a great British Sea Power fan (in fact I'm not a fan of theirs at all) but they're better than the joke that passes for Faust these days. The last time I saw Faust they were total dog-shit (at the Spanish City - did you see that Pash?)

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Monday, 21 November 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

I didn't, no. Last thing I saw at spanish city was bill brufor'd earthworks!

I bet this was really a main band pissed off b/c support band overran issue.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 21 November 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

bill bruford's earthworks, argh.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 21 November 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Should've set Zappi on him with some fireworks!
Peron is insane, yes.
